Help me pick a speaker system for my i7 rig

I would appreciate it if anyone can give me some suggestions for a 2.0 or 2.1 speaker system for my new rig.

I'm not sure about the vendor, but these EV SonicXS speakers are great.
Plenty of power and clarity.
Here's a review of the 2.1 version like I own.

for $250 i'd buy a $100 reciever, some bookshelfs and a small powered sub.

only thing i'd touch in the pc market would be klipsch. after so many years, i've yet to see another line of competent PC speakers.

the above speakers look decent, though. using horns like klipsch, which is odd (but works for klipsch).

How did the SonicXS speakers sound to you?
Did you have the 2.1 or 4.1 version?

Near-field monitors will give the best sound quality, but will take up more space than most other desktop type systems. here's some examples:

For $250 I'd find a set of Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's, pocket the rest, and call it a day.

you need bigger speakers for decent midrange...those are youtube speakers.
