Help Me Pick A Protein Supplement

TrevorK

Senior member
I'm looking to get some additional protein into my diet, and was wondering what protein supplements you guys use/recommend? I've started working out, so I'd like to try to make sure I get the most of it. The site that I'll be buying from is:

http://www.fitmart.com

Oh, and I was going to order the Xenadrine from them too. The CytoDyne Xenadrine RFA-1 is the right stuff, right?

Thanks
Trevor

HOLY CRAP!!! How many times do I have to say this???

EGGS!!!

Way better bio-availability than anything you will buy in a jar, and far and away less expensive. If you buy a nutritional supplement, I will laugh at you.

Each egg has 7g of protein. Not bad, but at 15% of your fat needs and 80% of your cholestrol needs PER EGG, it isn't necessary healthy. Yes, you can eat about 8 eggs for the cost of the fraction of a tub of supplemental protein, but you're putting on a lot of fat and cholestrol that aren't healthy.

Eggs are very good for you. I regularily enjoy an 8-egg omlette. But I want to have 160g of protein a day, and that would be more or less 22 eggs each day. That is not healthy.

I think each egg white has like 4g of protein. The yolk has an additional 2g of protein but most of the bad stuff like cholestrol and fat is also in there.

After I finish the Isopure bottle I have, Im gonna start taking eggs

6g per egg, so 3 and change. However, you also get cholesterol (precursor for testosterone) and a very high bio-availability (essentially what you body can do with the protein). And, at least near me, I can now get 18 eggs for $1. That means to get 20 g of protein, it would cost me 17 cents. Try coming even CLOSE to that with something out of a jar.

But you should know that 20g of protein doesn't do anything for your body. I try to get about 1g per pound of body weight a day. I have no problem with eating four, six, even eight eggs in a meal, but dude, it's not good so many eggs.

Goin on the ALL egg diet eh? haha. Nobody is suggesting that.

And not everyone can get all their protein from just plain food alone. It's a lot easier and more convenient to get a good chunk of your protein from a shake that takes 30 seconds to prepare than it does to cook 1 lb of chicken (if I recall you eat that nightly for dinner) or 8 eggs. And coming from an Asian family, my parents don't understand why I need to eat huge portions of meat to get protein. (When I asked my mom to up the meat serving at dinner) All supplements are designed to do is to give you an easy way to get the recommended daily dosage of protein.

why do non-vegetarians need protein supplements anyway? Don't you get all your protein from chicken, beef, etc? I'm a vegetarian and am lucky if I get 60g of protein a day. I weigh around 160 lbs and am 5'11"

Do not get xenadrine. Get protein powder to supplement your diet, but do not take drugs. I use ProLab products. I am a competitive rower at a high level. Weight Gainer for in the summer when I usually lose weight (keeps me constant), and Whey Protein for the winter.

your body needs protein, but for the most part it only needs the amino acids, the actual synthesis of useful proteins is done in your own body cells. Also, "protein" is a misleading term. there are actually a whole pile of different proteins your cell needs... but never fear given the correct ingredients your cells will make them all by themselves.. something the companies that produce these products seemingly fail to tell you.
have fun making someone rich

<< well how hard are you training that you need so much protien? >>

An athlete needs 1g of protein per 1kg of body weight.

To put on muscle you should up that to 1g of protein per 1lb of body weight.

That's the general guidlines. For normally active people you only need .5-.75g per 1kg of body weight. You don't need whey protein.

Dont' listen to all the holier-than-thou idiots. You're using it as a SUPPLEMENT to a normal diet. Personally, for best tastes, i would go for Designer, Prolab, or Myoplex. They're more expensive than the crappier tasting stuff... but if you want value, go for Optimal.

"Grow" by Biotest. It's better than any other sh!t and each serving contains 40g of digestable protein.

well if you are working out to build muscle, you should eat vegetarian protein rather that nonveg(eggs included).
Something like lentils or sprouts have a lot of protein, and i think are probably much healthier that anything nonveg.
They dont taste that bad either if you know how to jazz them up.
