So suppose you have this comp desk:

My desk

The monitor is a 17inch Magitronic (yech, I know), and I'm looking to upgrade to some sort of viewsonic.
I might consider other brands.
I have a GF2 right now, but I have a Radeon on the way.

Anyways, here's the problem, this monitor is pretty big in the space right now....

So would you go with a better quality 17inch (PF775, 755DF, etc), or a lower quality 19inch (Q95 or G90f, 955DF, etc)?

Basically, better 17 or worse 19?

Thx!

Oh yeah, and my eyes are around a foot and a half away from the monitor (18inches)

How can youi consider a 755DF a higher quality than a 955DF? They are basically the same just the 955DF is bigger? If you want a high quality 17 get the Samsung 700 IFT or NF. By the looks of your desk.......... can you fit a 19 in there? I have the 955 and it's honking huge.

Cheers,

Really?

I got up to 19inches of height, right now 17.5inches of rear clearance, and I could squeeze another inch in there, but that would be a bit tight.
Width isn't a problem.

Budget's ~$450 CAD, before taxes.

I dunno much about Samsung monitors at all....hence why I'm posting here :)

It looks like a 19inchers will be a VERY tight squeeze....but I could live with that.

<< Better quality 17incher >>

Since you don't sit across the room or anything from your monitor, get a better quality 17.

You should be able to find a 19 incher in there...you might have to pull the desk forward a little tho.

Nope, I don't do that :)

It'd apparently be very tight on heigth, but depth is not a problem.
Nether is width.

Just the size in general.

<< ick, 17" would suck. I needed a cheap 19"er, got me one of these.. I think it came to about $350US. >>

The monitor in the pics a 17, I just swapped it (moving the desk forward as well) with my old 15inch. My dads not very happy using that 15inch right now :Q ;)

My desk isn't big enough.
And I definetely dont need 21inches.
And I can't afford a good quality 21incher.
And I'm in Canada, so hot deals are a lot harder to find.

Buying anything smaller than a 19" is a waste of money. I wish i spent extra two years ago and bought a 21" instead of my 19". If you buy a 17", you'll be in for a disappointment.

Do you have any friends in the USA who can receive shipments or maybe Dell Small Business ships to Canada?

I would take advantage of their 15% off sale this weekend only.

The best bang for your buck quality monitor is the Samsung SyncMaster 753DF for USD $146.16.

Here's a list of all their 17" CRT monitors

If you qualify for this $40 rebate that could drop this deal into molten lava hot territory at barely over USD $100 for one of THE best 17" monitors around.

Best of all you get FREE GROUND SHIPPING!

Damn I love hot deals.

Viperoni - That seems like a decent price, esp if you qualify for that $40 rebate.

Forget Viewsuckit.... overpriced IMO... the Samsung suggested is a good buy, but ~$450 CAN... you can almost afford a lot of really good 19" monitors. Just not Trinitron style monitors... Hitachis are good also and just within your range. I have one, it's too bad they're pulling out of North America's CRT market. They make great invar shadow mask monitors...
