Help me out please

A while back there was a discussion here about an oil treatment that was supposed to cure all sorts of ills. I can't remember the name of the stuff, and a search on "snake oil" didn't get me what I need. Anyone got a clue as to what it is I'm looking for?

Nope. You put this stuff in the motor, run it for a while and then change the oil. They claim it stops oil burning, among other things.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Sounds like piston rings, valve seals, and gaskets; will stop oil burning every time.

I would never put any additive in the oils in my car. Only thing I have done is tried a Fuel System cleaner Redline Si-1 in my tank, and according to BITOG it works.

Someone at BITOG put some restore in the oil and oh man the UOA came with IRON up into the 3000 PPM. lol at it trying to restore....

holy crap, it's over 9000? uh, 3000?! isn't it supposed to be ~100ppm near the top end?

edit: seafoam goes in the gas, just makes sure your car's tailpipe(s) is/are pointed towards a neighbor you don't like. I don't know about any "oil treatment."

Seafoam goes in the Gas OR Oil.

lol its supposed to be under 20ppm.. lol. Its basically rusty nails in your engine 😛. Thats the reason I would never put anything in my oil.

Seafoam thins out the oil to less then water and adds alot of Sodium, I dont see a point of seafoam at all. All the Oils you buy today have detergents to help keep the engine clean.

Yes I know your only suppose to run it for 100 miles or something like that.

But I dont see a point in any additive... they are usually just that snake oil.

The answer is Z max. Remember Z max everyone? The commercials with the bearing????? Come on people.

BTW, BG44k is one hell of a fuel additive. I stockpiled this stuff like ammo. Good thing I did, look on ebay to see what BG44k costs now! Prices outperformed my 401k over the last 3 years.

They changed the formula, the new one is shit compared to the old formula. Also be careful I hear BG44k is really strong stuff and you need to change your oil after you use it.

That's the stuff! Thank you.

I'm going to give it a try in my truck. It's started burning oil at only 180k. It almost has to be a stuck ring or two, it simply can't be worn out.

"It's started burning oil at ONLY 180K."

You've got to be kidding, right? You got 180K out of the engine and it's "only"?

180,000 miles is just getting broken in for an engine that is 1) known to be robust, 2) well taken care of.

My car is at 151k and doesn't burn a drop of oil... If it suddenly started burning oil at 180k, then yes something is amiss and I wouldn't assume it suddenly wore out in the last 30k miles..

All engines burn "a drop of oil"...

So very true. Our engine, with 215K on it, burns about a 1/2 quart in 4K miles between changes. This is slightly worse than when it was new when it was going through a 1/2 quart in 6K miles. Guessing the decrease is just from normal wear. Doesn't seem to have affected oil pressure at all, though.
