My B-day is coming up in 2 weeks and I want a really awesome pair of headphones. I don't really know which ones are the best, so I was wondering which ones any of you have used and think are great. Thanks.

Go to this website, they have all the really high end headphone stuff you need. Some of the headphones they have there are amazing, and expensive. They also have a headphone selection guide.

ForeverSilky,

I actually saw a pair of those at a store just lying out on disply. They are so nice.

I'm sure there were some hidden sharp shooters guarding it too.

But I'm thinking about getting These. Only $70 and they seem to really like them.

I use Grado SR60s and I must say they are excellent. I don't have any other high-quality headphones to compare them against but I'm pretty satisfied with them. Very comfortable, I can wear them for serveral hours without any sourness in my ears. You can crank up the volume quite a ways without any crackling.

About the Grados, its worth the upgrade to the SR80's. They sound quite a bit better, although they are slightly less comfortable.

If you want awesome phones, pick up Sennheiser HD580's off Ubid...

the Senn 580's are an incredible set of cans, easily the best in the line and better than the 600s. At 200 bucks at headroom, they're a steal.

Now I love listening to music, but not that much.

Also from that review site:

<< Tighter and more neutral sounding than the SR60's, but require an amp not to sound murky. >>

Not sure what this means, but would these be better than the SR60's for listening with my discman?

that statement would mean that the sr-60s play better off of your discman than the 80s, so if your discman is your primary listening source, definitely get the 60s.

and as far as i know, there aren't many places that u can buy grado's online. like most high end products, they only offer their products at reputable stores, which for most cases does not include online offerings:(

Yakko- WOW! I would Love those headphones.. How much are they?

So what headphones would you guys recomend for just general listening, including but not limited to a Walkman/Discman? Also out of a stereo, Sound card, etc? Basically, what's the best pair of (under 300$) headphones that are.. normal? :) The Sennheiser SR60's?

People spend thousands of dollars on a home stereo system, with awesome speakers, etc.. Why not spend 3-400$ on headphones? If you're used to a high end setup, those 20$ ones just aren't goin to cut it..

This is coming from someone who's Sony headphones broke that came with my Discman, so I went out and bought a pair of $1.99 headphones. :| :( They suck ass..

My $20 Sony MDR-CD180 stereo enhanced headphones kick ass!! Why pay that much money for a pair of headphones when you can go to Wal-Mart and get a really nice pair??

Notice how I described them as "stereo enhanced"???? heh, makes em sound that much better.....

HOLY SH_#($#*)(#^ *)#$_##&(_ ($(Q*&#*@$(*%)(*#)#*%^

That's absolutely CRAZY! Who in god's name would buy them?!?!? I guess someone that REALLY liked their music ..

Blurred- See, we humans are funny. Scenario:

You upgrade your S3 ViRGE PCI graphics card, and after playing Quake1 in Software mode for all that time, you get a TNT1. WOW! you say. GLQauke is so much better. Smooth graphics, good framerates, of 40FPS. This is awesome, you say.

Then you go out and buy a TNT2 Ultra. SWEET! 80FPS!

Would you ever want to play with 40FPS again? No.

Moral of the story: Things are only as good as the realm of our perception. If you percieve your 20$ headphones to be good, they are. But once you try something better, you would never want to use your 20$ headphones again.

I've never had the pleasure of putting Sennheiser's on my head, but I know how these things work.. ;)

Would one be able to use the Senn HD580's with a computer? I am asking because on the page it says

<< The 580s require 300 ohms, so an amp is needed with these headphones. >>

([l]http://headroom.headphone.com/ProductsHeadphones/SennheiserHD580.asp[/l]). I have a SoundBlaster Live! X-Gamer...

it is probable that u would need an amp w/ the 580's out of a sound card, although not definite. the reason you need an amp for cans out of a discman is that 2 aa batteries don't provide enough power to move the drivers adequately and you'll just eat your batteries real quick. so a soundcard, since it is ac powered, should, theoretically be able to power any set of cans.

and forever silky, good choice w/ the sr60's, they are great headphones, and imo, the best cans value around.

What kind of an amp are we talking about here? Would any amplification of the signal from default(assuming discman) be enough? If not, what kind of numbers are we looking at here?

RadioShaft sells quite a few little audio amplifier kits. 2.5W, 4W, 7W, 2x15W, 2x30W .. Which one would be the best?

Bah, Ill make my own thread

Sennheisers are good I heard, but the ones I use are Sony MDR-7506's. They are the same as the MDR-600 and they sound awesome.
