So I currently have:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824002129

A 19" NEC 90GX2-BK (just black unlike the link) LCD Monitor.

This product is discontinued and I'm curious as to my best option for running a dual-monitor setup that works well. My biggest concerns are buying something even from NEC and the monitor heights not matching up.

Should I stick to NEC to ensure things look good or will other alternatives work/appear just as well?

Also, if I were to try a widescreen for my 2nd monitor is that just asking for trouble with things lining up? Worth considering?

Thanks in advance.

Monitor heights are generally the same or pretty close. Take some measurments of your monitor and then head over to BestBuy or other store and see what monitor will fit the bill.

I can't speak for all the monitors, but here at work we use the Dell 1908WFP ... It's height, tilt and left / right alignment can all be adjusted so it fits the desk and the way you sit for best viewing.
