Help me make an ultra mega cool case mod(tm)

So for my case mod I had the brilliant idea of putting a fish tank inside my computer(a small one, built by myself, dont gotta be big, just cool 🙂.
Here are my concerns, A) How would I mount it to the case without "mad leakage". B) How is it possible to prevent the top from leaking(aka completely seal the box with an air pump) but allow later access for stuff like cleaning and taking out dead fish(hey I am a realist).

You're gonna be needing to take out dead fish sooner than you thought. You forgot about feeding them 😉

Honestly though, you're going to have a really rough time getting the box sealed, kept cool (computers are HOT inside), and still accessable to things going in and coming out of the tank.

One thing you might try is having 2 tanks connected by a big piece of tubing somehow, and have the top tank be where you can access the inside to drop in food and such. You could just put the bigger tank on top of your case, then you don't have to worry about opening a container full of water in an open computer.

Hmmmm... but then you would have to find a way to access the lower tank for cleaning and such... Interesting dilema.

If you get it completed though, it will be one of the coolest mods I've seen in a long time. Good luck 🙂

it has been done before

well... kinda it wasn't really a fish tank but more of an area of space on the side of the case that had water and bubbles in it

don't even ask me for the link... it's been a long while

I remember that case. The difference was that this container will have live animals in it, I believe the other one was a completely sealed container, the bubbles came up and the air pump sucked the air from the top to go through the cycle again.

Sestar: How about this... Instead of having a fish tank inside your computer, how about having the fish tank be the entire SIDE of your computer? Then you could open it up from the top anytime and feed them/ remove dead fish. Also since it would have so much area you wouldn't have to worry about cooling it too much. You also wouldn't need a heater, because your computer would take care of that for you. Also, if you needed to transport your comp. you could pop it off the hinges and replace it with the original side.

I'm interested to see how this would work/look. How would you keep the fish cool??? I would think they would die from the heat.

Thanks for the feedback, the problem with the big ol side case is well, thats a whole lotta modding, and its gonna be ultraheavy. I prefer a smaller one, and as for heat, I can always have a variable speed fan.

Yeah, but I would say in order to get a fish tank in there you're going to need a lot of modding no matter what.
Also I don't think a variable speed fan is going to move enough air to keep your fish from dieing.
What size tank were you thinking about? Lets start from there and see where we can get.

ok, as for the tank, I want to build it myself out of plexiglass or something similar, my vision for it is 3x3 inches with 2 inches of depth, air pump, gravel, a few goldfish(or something cheap). And a neon light in the case(for coolness factor). I would prefer for it to snap out for transport. I think a slow 80mm fan would do FINE for cooling, case temps hover around 30 degrees celsius so it shouldnt be hard getting water down to room temperature.

try using a beta fish in there... tehy require less space, don't need air pumps, and live alot longer.
