Help me make a final decision..--Dell UltraSharp 2001FP vs ViewSonic VP912B

Finally raised the $$$ to fund my monitor purchase and my final choices are these 2 nice monitors:

12 ms or 16ms

im gonna use the monitor for gaming, DV to DVD conversion, some Photo Editing and for watching TV ...

get the 2001fp. it will be fine for all your needs. 16ms is not slow at all for lcds. heck, some new generation 25ms panels are better then some 16ms panels. i think it was 8bit vs 6bit?

I just got my second 2001fp today. Its a replacement for my first one, but damned if they dont look good together. It seems a crime to seperate them.

Well, I've had great success with the Viewsonic VP171B, so I imagine the 192B will be quite good. You also need to decide whether you plan to game at mostly 1600 x 1200 or 1280 x 1024. GamePC had an excellent review of the 192B. It also appears to have better contrast and brightness specs than the 2001FP.

Honestly, you couldn't go wrong with either, but it will really depend on your CPU/GPU hardware. 😉

Edit: Just saw your config in the sig area. Never mind then, 1600 x 1200 isn't going to be a problem. 😎

I would'nt give Dell one red cent of mine. Have you seen thier re-seller rating??? I bet drug dealers have better consumer feedback.

Here is the Dell in Veiwsonic form not the one you have selected.

That's mainly for their (horrible) customer support on BTO and customized systems. For home computers, yes, they are terrible.

For monitors, they sell some of the best 😉 .

I have a 2001FP and couldn't be happier. I have never seen the Viewsonic you are looking at but we have an older model 18" LCD from them and I must say its very nice! That being said I personally would go for whatever has the best price and warranty (particularly from a dead pixel standpoint). My guess is you cannot go wrong with either choice.

I'm going thru this decision pretty much, too. What vid card is the min to be able to run stuff at 1600x1200 on the Dell. Would the 6800NU be ok?

Only thing that worries me about the 2001fp is that I only have a 9600xt. I don't have plans to buy a new video card to drive all my games at 1600x1200.

My Dell 20" LCD forced me to upgrade my 9800 pro to an x800 in order to play new games with high detail. I don't regret it because the big screen is so immersive.

Despite Viewsonic's website cliam vp 912b has glare coating. it is not! Personally I like the glare coating, because it makes color more saturated. I was disspointed when I found out the vp912b i recieved has anti glare coating.
