I have these things on a temporary wishlist at Newegg...

Lian Li PC-61 Black Case
Asus A8n-SLI Premium Mobo
eVGA 7900 GTX 512 MB Video
Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego CPU
OCZ 2GB PC3200 Unbuffered Dual Channel Memory
Seasonic S12-600 PSU
Zalman CNPS9500 Fan/Heatsink
Creative Inspire T5400 5.1 Speakers

Already have LCD, CD, DVD and standard accessories.

1) I want to use SLI later on... but not confirmed
2) I want to play high quality games like oblivion
3) I want to watch DVDs in surround sound
4) I might get a seperate sound card later if the mobo sound is bad
5) I am worried about heating and adequate cooling
6) I don't plan on overclocking for a while (maybe when something really next gen comes out)

I am looking for advice on any additions/replacements of the items above and whether you think this is a ok build.

I built my own computer like 4 years ago and its held up so I plan on building a new one based on the parts above.

Thanks!

It looks good except if you plan on doing Oblivon your better off getting an ATI card and a crossfire motherboard as ati does quite a bit better than Nvidia overall in that game, for DVD viewing any modern system is fine. also as opposed to a 4000+ I'd look into a dual core CPU like an Opteron 165/170 or a 3800-4400+ based on anards review of cpu scaleing in that game it seems to actualy make somewhat of a difference and it will be more useful in the future.

Edit: also I'd rec a TT Big Typhoon or Sythe Ninja for the HSF, both are cheaper and outperforms the zalman, but if you like the look or have spare cash its still a good choice

Instead of the 4000+ get either an X2 3800+ or Opteron 165. It will help in multi-tasking situations and will eventually result in better performance in games.
Get a DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR. It's the one I have and it's GREAT. If you want more spacing for cooling get a DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR Expert.
The Zalman is great and "performs like a champ." At 1.5v I'm idling at 27c low fan speed. Otherwise looks great!

i agree with the dual core as it is already showing its usefulness in gaming as well as dvd ripping, and other processing apps

case: your choice
mobo: not a bad one but i would get a crossfire board or a single card board
gpu: ati x1900xt. performs almost as well as the x1900xtx and is noticably better than the 7900gtx in oblivion
cpu: 3800-4400x2 if you're not overclocking (which you don't seem to be). if you are overcocking, either the 3800x2 or the opteron 165
ram: good choice
psu: good choice and good amount of power if you go with dual cards
fan: good choice
sound card: i don't know about these :p
speakers: same as sound card :D

it looks like you're building a pretty solid system. hope you have fun building it. do you have any set budget btw?

I have to agree here. If you cannot get the 7900GTX then do get an x1900xt, since the GTX perfroms better in single AND DUAL card array than the x1900xt, then the XT is the 2nd best choice

case: looks good
motherboard: dfi sli, your choice, don't forget the infinities too
gpu: totally preference base right now but eVGA is a good brand
cpu: if you want a san diego save the $$ and get the 3700+ and OC it, mine's running at 2.9 no problem, dual core wouldn't hur though
ram: looks good
PSU: you want my seasonic? i have the s12-600 and am not happy with it. it's not a bad power supply by any means but, I've got a buttload of hdd's and my voltages are sagging. VERY QUIET
HSF:I would go thermalright 120, noctua, or scythe well before the zalman
speakers: I've got the t3000's and they sound great, I'm impressed with creative's speakers

i would also reccomend an aftermarket cooler on the gpu, if for no other reason than the decibles the stock ones can put out. I'm a cooling nutjob though. I've replaced every heatsink and fan in my system from the cpu to the pwm's.
