Help me install drivers/windows xp home

This would kind of go into Software category, but no one replies as much as here.

So after I build my PC what do I do? For example I know the first thing I have to do is change the bios so it boots from the cd drive so I can install XP. Thenm how do I install XP, what do I do next? CHipset Drivers, Keyboard drivers, motherboard drivers, etc..?

My PC:
CPU: Amd Athlon 64 3200
CPU Fan: CNPS7000A AlCu
Hard Drive: Western Digital Raptor 74 GB (I know I have to do some F6 thing, but what happens if I just install on the native Sata ports and don't use raid, will I have to press F6 or what?
Motherboard: Asus K8N-E Deluxe (Do i download both chipset and motherboard drivers or what?)
Optical: 2510A Nec Burner and a 16X Asus Dvd Rom
Webcam: Quick Cam Messenger
Sound Card: Audigy 2 ZS
Floppy: Nec Floppy drive (i'm sure I don't need any drivers for this, but just in case I listed it here)
Keyboard/Mouse: MX Duo (I want to use all the keys, also I know Logitech has a bad rep for drivers and stuff and whether they are bloated and all this stuff, so yeah)
Video Card: Evga 6800 GT (should I get drivers from Evga or nvidia?)
Enermax 470W Noisetaker
Ram: 2X 512 mb of corsair value select

So tell me how to go about doing this what I should install first, how to install, etc.

You will not need the floppy drivers during install if you're not using RAID.

Install the ASUS drivers for the chipset first, then the Nvidia driver for the AGP. Each driver file will either self extract and install or will need to be extracted to a folder from where all you need to do is run the setup.exe file.

just put the cd in your computer, restart, press a button to boot from cd, and follow the step by step interface.

Blackviper.com has OS-installation guides. I'd do like this:

  1. Unplug your network cable and leave it unplugged
  2. Install WinXP
  3. Set strong passwords on all your computer's user accounts (8 characters or more, not a dictionary word, with at least one numeral and one symbol, like v1rus=tehBad for example)
  4. Install Service Pack 2 (pre-download it from here and have it on CD or a USB drive). SP2 includes DirectX 9.0C and IE6SP1+, as well as Windows Media Player 9, so you don't need separate updates for those.
  5. Take a snack break :D
  6. Reboot and enable the WinXP software firewall. Also enable Automagic Updates.
  7. Install your nVidia Unified Driver Package 4.27 (again, have this pre-downloaded) and reboot.
  8. Install your antivirus software, double-check that your firewall is enabled, and now plug in your network cable and immediately update your antivirus software, then go to Windows Update to see if there are any further updates you need.
  9. Install Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 1.2.1 and run it to see if you have any remaining issues to iron out.
  10. I'd recommend also enabling Data Execution Prevention for all programs. The Resources page of my building guide mentions where to find that and enable it.
  11. Now you are ready for another snack break and a Defrag session :)
By the way, best practices would be to create yourself a Limited user account to use for day-to-day stuff. Spyware, adware, viruses, Trojans and so forth are often hindered or thwarted by having nothing but a Limited account to work with. Reserve the Admin powers for only when you actually need them. If other people might want to use your computer, set up a separate Visitor account for them to use and make sure it's a Limited account too.

All right, when should I install the chipset driver and motherboard drivers? Also should I use the nvidia drivers or the Evga ones? Thanks MechBgon!!!!! That was so helpful!!!!!! =D

he tells you above when to install your nvidia drivers (chipset drivers). Use the nvidia video drivers not the evga ones.

nvidia makes youe chipset drivers AND video drivers. When he says "#7 Install your nVidia Unified Driver Package 4.27 (again, have this pre-downloaded) and reboot."

Those are your motherboard drivers.

Oh, lol I thought you need both chipset drivers and motherboard drivers! Ok well thanks MechBgon and pirred908!!!!

Also will I need to press F6 if i'm not using RAID but I am using a SATA drive? And if I'm using the native nforce 3 2500 sata port things.

haha sorry for the confusion. ;)

Yes, you will need to press F6 to load a SATA HDD. Make sure you have the floppy that came with your mobo.

My motherboard didn't come with a floppy disk. Where can I get it? I'm not using RAID, or anything, I just have a SATA hard drive and i'm gonna use the Native nforce 3 250 GB native sata ports.

i'm fairly sure that windows xp will automatically detect your sata drive (it did for me), so you shouldn't need drivers.

Well first of all, make sure you setup the hardware correctly. It seems you're pretty green when it comes to setting up a comp. The software should be your last concern. If you don't setup the hardware correctly, you won't have a computer to install software on.

The CD that came with the motherboard has all the drivers you'll need, aside from the video drivers, which you should download from the manufacturer's website and install (the CD w/ the video card probably won't have the latest drivers). You don't need keboard, mouse etc drivers. XP will detect the peripherals and install it all for you.

Again, make sure you have all the hardware installed correctly. I'd suggest you find someone experienced to put it together for you.

Asus makes your board? go to Asus.com, select your mainboard, and select download. you should get a list of available downloads.

holy man, you must need your hand held to go to the bathroom eh!? :)

If your mobo didn't come with a floppy than you won't need it. I have the ABIT AN7 motherboard an a SATA harddrive. I needed a floppy with drivers on it, in order for windows to detect my HDD.
