I got my results for my second year at uni today. My average for this year was exactly 57.5%. This year counts for 30% of my total mark. My final year counts for 70% of my total mark. My final year is split into 8 modules, all of equal weight.

My question: what do I need to average in my final year to get a total mark of 60%? And can you give me a generic formula so I can work it out for my mates too? (We are all crap at maths).

Cheers!

let x = your average in your second year.
let y = your average in your final year.
let z = your final overall score.

0.3*x + 0.7*y = z

0.3*(0.575) + 0.7*y = 0.6
0.1725 + 0.7*y = 0.6
0.7*y = .4275
y = .6107

therefore, the average of your 8 final year modules must be 61.07% or higher.
