i have a tv tuner out of a HP media centre machine... its a LSI dvxplore card (never heard of it) based on the philips chip... is it any good?

my second question is that i have rogers broadband which is based on tv cable...does this line carry an active tv signal which i can use with the tv tuner?...i am planning on buying a coax spiltter and having on cable run to the modem and other to the card...will this work?

much appreciated all

don't you have a tv that you can plug the coax into and see if there is a signal? some cable companies are lazy and don't turn off the tv reception on some lines, you may get lucky and that be the case in your situation.

but I may be reading your post wrong. if you already have cable tv service and just wondering if the line going to your cable box has a tv signal the answer is most likely yes it does. however it is not advised by the cable companies to split the cable to do this as it takes away from the signal strength.

so give it a shot and see if the loss matters enough to you. (it didn't to me and I'm doing exactly what you are thinking of doing)

as for the tuner, neer heard of it but here's some info:

Yes the cable going to your cable MODEM also carries a TV signal and you can split it and have it go to a TV tuner card and your cable MODEM.

My cable is split one goes to my cable MODEM and the other goes to my ATI AIW 9800 Pro video card's TV tuner.

As mentioned above spliting the cable can degrade the signal it won't efect the TV signal but you may loose cable internet, I loose mine sometimes, when I do I just unhook the video card's cable from the splitter and it comes back.
