Here's what I remember about it:
- It follows the main character from childhood to adulthood.
- The main character is an Afrikaner living among mostly British people and of course they give him a hard time especially after some war breaks out. I don't remember if it was one of the Boer wars or if it was WWI.
- I'm pretty sure it takes place somewhere about 100 years ago based on the costumes
- The main character befriends an African man who organizes a kind of nonviolent resistance by teaching a bunch of other Africans a song that sounds good (they put on performances for Europeans living there) but whose lyrics make fun of the white people. He is executed when they find out what the song means.
- The main character also has a girlfriend who is killed accidentally during a skirmish in a building. Someone swings a club or baton at another guy, the guy ducks, and the club smacks the girl in the forehead really hard, killing her.
That's all I remember. Do your worst, ATOT.
