Help me get wireless here in Japan on my crappy laptop

I have been getting the wireless signal from the two hotels I`ve been staying at here in Japan, but both won`t work due to encryption. My Japanese is not strong enough to ask someone at the desk about how to use the connection. Any ideas about getting the proper connection using general tips, tricks, and any pertinent info I can get from the connection here at the free to use computer in the lobby?

Any help would be much appreciated.

If I can get this working you will be rewarded with dozens of great photos on ATOT from my trip so far

EDIT: I want no part in any frowned upon activity, just general tech advice to solve the problem.

If they have encryption, then get the encryption key and you won't have any problems. If you can't talk to the front desk yourself, find someone that can speak English and have them ask for you.

Asking how to break into someone else's network is highly frowned upon, and to be honest, you won't get help doing that here...

Yes, sorry sorry. I had no intention of implying breaking into anything. I was hoping perhaps the connect and data that is provided on their public computers would help due to the fact that the front desk speaks no English nor would be likely to understand the concept of wireless encryption.

there's lots of hot spots around tokyo - lots of non-encrypted wifi as well if you don't mind the casual 'borrowing' of someones connection.

where are you located? I might know of a good spot where you are
