Help me get to the bottom of this: strange network access attempts

I have found out a little bit more about what's funking with my network here at college. Every so often, my network access will pause, just stop dead, for several seconds. I have found out why. Some sort of connection attempt is coming in from IP 0.0.0.0, and the several seconds is spent by my computer trying to talk back to an IP that can't exist.
I NEED to find out where this 0.0.0.0 is coming from. There must be some way to trace this back to where it's coming from!?

Was there an original post to this? I think 0.0.0.0 is indicative of an IP address conflict. Someone in the network is trying to use your IP address? Does your college use static or DHCP?

If everything is DHCP then what Spidey07 said might be true. :frown:

0.0.0.0 as a source is completely invalid. frequently used as a source in attacks. most if not all internet routers drop these frames. since this is local on your campus it is probably not passing through a properly administered router.
