say you don't know how to speak english...

that's how my mom got out of jury duty. hehe..

i dunno what excuse i could come up with if i ever received jury duty. knowing my luck..they'll deny my claim that I'm a full time student or something. we'll see when/if it happens, i guess.
hehe - Does your Mom actually speak English?

hehe..she does. but not enough to fully understand what would go on in the court room.

it's saving herself AND the courts a whole lot of trouble..b/c she'd probably be sneaking in a cell phone...with a microscopic earpiece...making me listen in to the WHOLE thing and then explain it all to her.

i guess she's saving ME trouble too. lol.

That's all you need.

No it isn't. The courts don't care if you are a student. Why would they? I have to support my family and they don't care.

This is all it took for me to get out of jury duty in West Virginia. I do believe this is a legitimate excuse.

If that doesnt work tell them your racist, they will get rid of you quick.

Don't try it... they're not too friendly with people who say stuff like that just to get out of jury duty... you're risking a fine.

I've never registered to vote in my home state since it is notorious for jury duty. My wife registered, and she has been called up 3 times in 3 years.

I'm generally not too thrilled with people trying to 'get out of' jury duty, but you sure seem like you have a legitimate issue "i'm finishing up my last semester up in northern california 400 miles away". You should respond and tell them you no longer live in the county. Now, if you later get called up there, go ;)

Unless you got the notice served in hand, or it came certified mail that you had to sign for, you can just ignore it and say you never got it. They would not be able to fine you unless they could prove you actually received the notice.

Ive deferred my jury duty for the last three years while i've been a student, been summoned like 3 or 4 times i think. even when i get summoned over the summer. jury duty is for chumps

Go and do a good job, then hope someone is kind enough to repay the favor when your time comes. generaly the people on juries are the ones who aren't smart enough to get out of it.

you can defer it for school for like 6 months. if you're not in the area after 6 months, then when they ask again, you just tell them you don't live there anymore.
