Try a newer driver version.

177.35

Select Vista 64, hit search, click the first download link. This is the highest driver out that I'm aware of that supports the 8800 series cards, not just the latest greatest ones.

You should be able to install the driver while in safe mode.

Turns out that Quicksilver was on the money with the suggestion for the BIOS. Works great!
