HAve a plexotr 48x24x48a Drive that won't burn faster then 12x.. In my old sysytem it would but xsince I b uilt this new system it sits right at 12 x.. Any ideas for me to try? maybe a setting that I should have set but didn't??
Thanks.

I always burn an image to hd first.. so ya from hd....

And device id ?? i'm not sure about this one... where do I find it?

I'm not sure what burning software you're using, but in Nero you should set your disk cache size to no greater than 40% of your physical RAM size. On a Plextor 48x12x20 that I recently installed, I could not get 48x burns until after I increased my disk cache size.

If you have the burner on the same cable as the HD you're copying to/from, move it to the other channel.
If the burner is capable of DMA, make sure it's configured to do so.

Where's the :sun: ???

I use Alcohol mostly to burn things.. And I haven't been able to located where to check the dma status in Win xp pro.. any ideas? as for the ide channel it is all alone.. Hd is on a seperate channel.. I will give the cache idea a try.. thanks.

just tried the cache thing.. and it was allready set to 128meg which is the highest it says it can go.. um... It only burned at 11x.. so I am off to try more things.

Okay.. have dma set correctly.. Actually it was already.. Still only burns at the 12x speed.. any other ideas for me??

Things to check:
Is the ide cable longer than 18"?
Try a different cable.
Re-route the ide cable (possible interference).
Insure it is on the last connector on the cable.
Whether it is set as master or cable select, try the other setting.
Since you always record to the hd first, there may be a configuration problem with the hd where it can't output fast enough for the burner to run faster. If you have another optical drive in the rig, try a "copy on the fly" burn.

THanks to all for the suggestions.. I Think I finally got it fixed... What I did...

Enabled DMA.. Checked everythign else then I thought.. ya know, I bet there are some drivers on the disc that I never installed??!??!? since it is a fresh install.. I put in the new aspi drivers and ya wanna know what happened!? That little thing started burning at 24x and just walked her way on up to around 35ish.. I Figure the rest is media related because of the cheap cdr's...

BUt thank you EVERYONE!! this board rocks.
