Ive been out of the game for about a year bc i have been very happy with my system but i think its time to upgrade. I am wating to arrange the system around a highly ocable xp1700 tbred B. Only prob is that i have no clue what the good ocing mobos or rams are. Ive heard great things about the Epox 8rda+ and the hyperx combo. Right now i am looking at the hyperx 3500 512 stick, the 8rda+, and the xp1700. I know this seems to be a popular setup but does anyone have any other suggestions. I would like to keep the total under $300. Also would i be better off running two 256 sticks instead of a single 512? Thanks for the help.

Steven

also please pm with any offers if you have an LTC3 xp1700 that you wanna get rid of thanks again

I have an 8RDA+ and a 1700+ with kingston hyperx ram running at 209x11=2300mhz at 1.7v. I think the kingston hyperx 3500 is the best ram for the money. As for the cpu I would get the 1700+ 1.5v "L" chip. That is the one that I have. You can get it at Excaliber PC for $72 or you can go to Newegg and get a 2100+ for $99. Personally I would get the 1.5v 1700+. As for the motherboard the best place is newegg. All of the recent boards I have gotten from them have been the new stepping and overclock well. Of course there is a chance that you will get a board that does not do 200fsb. Another good board is the abit nf7-s version 2. This board is a good overclocker as well and supposedly it is easy to mod it so that you can adjust the VDD. That is the chipset voltage and it sometimes needs to be increased to get a higher fsb. I really like my 8RDA+. I have had it up to 220fsb. I feel i have a good reliable speed right now. Be sure to get a good cpu cooler. I like the thermaltake slk800. That is the one i have. Right now my cpu is at 37C! good luck!

Ok right now i have an alpha pal 8045. Would there be a point to getting the slk800? It would save me $35 if i didnt. Another ram question: Would i be ok with the hyperx 3000 or should i just get some nuts and spend the extra on the 3500?

Spring for the 3500 if you don't want anything holding you back, especially if you want to crack that magical 200MHz FSB.

you can break the 200 mhz mark with the 300 but you'll have to relax your timings like mad...

go with the 3500... :)
