Here's the story so far. I'm using an Iwill KK266-R, latest bios, Windows 2000, onboard sound, V3 2k PCI (slot 1). Everything works great until I try to install a NIC.

I tried a Kingston KNE100 first...machine wouldn't even boot with it plugged. Tried it in PCI4, 5, and 6. Next I tried a Linksys LNE100 ver 2.0..can't miss with that right...wrong! 2000 is supposed to have native support for it but it doesn't install right. I am unable to install drivers that I d/l'd for 2000 either. I tried the LNE100 in PCI 4, 5, and 6 also.

I've got a few more PCI slots to try but I don't expect any better results.

Please point out some obvious mistake that I'm making so I can clear this thing off my bench.

Maybe the nic is defective. Try in a diff system to double check. I have the kk266+ w/ sept 27 01 bios and and run two nics simultaneously without a problem.

The Kingston is untested and has been in my drawer for over a year. It could very well be defective. The Linksys is a working pull from my old computer. I can say with 99% certainty that the LNE100 is not broken. I'm thinking I may be pointing Windows to the wrong folder on the LNE100 driver disk. I'm gonna dig into it some more when I get home from work.
I just have never had this much trouble installing ANY component.

**EDIT** moved the lne100 to slot 3 and it installed without a problem.
