so

$3700

- monitor @ $1600 = 2100

- 2 x 6800 GTs @ $400 = 1300

- 2 x 74 GB Raptors @$176 = ~ 950

- NF4 mobo @ $200 = ~ 750

- 3500 90nm socket 939 = ~ 430

- RAM = ~ 230

- DVD burner @ $100 = ~ $130

- WinXP home @ 87 = ~ $40

But you still need a case. I would skimp on the burner if I had to pick something.

Don't want dual raptors, have to have XP pro, can probably get the HP for $1300 shipped.

That puts me at $440, then a case and power supply and I'd like two optical drives so that finishes it off...

- Case $200 = 240

- Power $100 = 140

- Other optical $50 = 90

That means I'll be with the stock fan on a 90nm athlon though... no fun. I suppose I can always do a watercool upgrade once it becomes a little more mainstream.

Lets see is there anything missing from that configuration?

Also what is a good case to get? I really don't care all that much about looks my most important factor is coolness followed by silence.

Ok, sorry for the bump last time I promise.

I think it comes down to this:

Water cooled athlon 3500+ with vp201B

or

Athlon 3500+ with HP23" l2335

or

Athlon FX-55 with vp201B

Well what would you do and why?

Are you planning on overclocking it as far as you can? If so, I would go with the watercooled option, that way whenever you upgrade your CPU you can OC it (IOW you only have to buy watercooling once, but wil beneift from it with each upgrade)

IF you don't plan on overclocking, or only moderate overclocking, I would go for the monitor or the FX-55. Obviously with a couple of 6800 GTs in SLI you're going to be taxing your processor. It might be a good idea to wait until some SLI benchmarks come out so you can see how much of a difference the FX-55 would make.
