Squat more and eat more. Less flaffing about with small exercises unless doing wrist curls really help your rock climbing.

Good advice here. Squatting is one of the best exercises you can do period. It just very hard to get great, great form. The body normally has a couple imbalances.

Yeah, I steared away from squats, and clean/jerks for a few months, but over christmas I learned the form from a few personal trainers, so ive just recently been getting into that kind of stuff.

Got any videos of your C&J form?

I'm a qualified coach and ref in weightilfting

You do C&J with squats and you will STACK ON WEIGHT LIKE NO OTHER with eating lots.

C&J is technical and harder to get right. Squats are much easier to get right. Do squats at least 2 out of your 3 sessions a week and you will see much better and faster improvements in gaining mass. Sooner you do it the sooner you will see results. It will definately be hard work but the results are great.

Man this is freaky, you look kinda like my brother. He's the only redhead in our family, and like you he's always been incredibly skinny with low body fat. After highschool he could barely stay at 120lbs, although he's in the Navy now and they've fixed him right up.

When you do a new exercise you SHOULD NOT MAX OUT!

Your not use to an exercise start off light, say 40lbs or so. Get use to the 'exercise' and then get the weights up later.

First 6 sessions I recommend 15reps x 3 sets. 15reps = the weight will be lighter or you certainly won't be finishing the 15reps!

Do that for say 8-10 sessions. Then drop it down to 12reps x 4 sets for the next 8-10 sessions. Then drop further to 10reps x 3 sets for 8-10 sessions. Then drop to 8reps x 4 sets for the same time again. Then to 6reps x 5 sets where you can lift heavy.

This will build muscles to support the weights that you will use later. Like you would not jump off a 2m high ledge first thing and risk a lot of injury. You can build up to it by jumping off lower heights and then build up.

Can you do a one legged squat without holding on to stuff? If you can then your squat form is much more likely to be good. If you can't your probably tight in your hams/ ankle or hips.

My little bro, 11 next month can do 6 one legged squats balancing on his own, and 41 push ups with good form. He will be a MONSTER.

Switch your workout every month, or alternate workouts every week - change it up - the body's good at getting used to something very quick. Don't, however, change your core exercises. For example, don't take squats out for your leg workout or bicep curls out for your biceps.

Also, some studies show that if you do quasi-circuit training with your free weights - i.e. move from one exercise to another to another you can increase muscle mass. But in some gyms, especially when they're crowded, this may be impossible.

How the heck do you eat all those fatty foods and yet still look ripped?

1. Where do you see "all those fatty foods"
2. He has a super-high metabolism, what's considered an ectomorph.

(This is stuff you should have learned in high-school).

Bacon, eggs, milk, peanut butter.
2. Yeah super high metabolism doesn't mean you burn off fat really quick, it means you burn off calories really quick. So the fat will still get added on.
I know, because I have really high metabolism too. And I've been eating like crazy for about a year too, and on top of working out, I've gained quite a bit of fat. I actually have a small stomach flab now.

Eating fat doesn't make you fat. You're mistaking two terms. Fatty foods are calories just like any other food. They may have other side effects like affecting your bowels or clogging your veins, but in the end they are simply calories.

Yes, the bacon and other various meat items will have protein and stuff, but you're simply taking in too much fat; it's not going to be good at all to gain weight from fat. Beyond that; you'll lose it relatively quickly when you excerise if you don't cram more stuff into your system. The only decent way you're going to gain weight is through muscle mass. And when doing that, you still won't want to be eating so much meat, find a different source of protein.

well, first off, congrats for hitting 144. it might not be 160, but it's still better than 125

I'm looking at your diet and it looks like you're not eating enough calories. Wait, it doesn't look like it's not enough calories, it isn't enough calories. Increase your intake for lunch, pick up some snack bars or drinks (like ensure) to eat/drink throughout the day, just eat more because that's not enough, especially for an ectomorph.
creatine will help you gain strength but not much hard weight (its mostly water weight)

Congrats on the gain in 9 months. Sounds like you are already on a somewhat balanced diet but if you want weight then eat lost of spaghetti/pizza and beer. Extra butter on your toast, bacon and sourcream on your potato etc.. For breakfast cook your bacon first then fry your eggs in the bacon grease. And eat more fruit to get the natural sugar.

Also mix up your exercizes a bit and add some more leg exercize like an hour on a bike a few days a week. Not a stationary bike a real one.

All that exercise is probably just increasing your metabolism (quite a bit too). Aim to eat lots of foods filled with carbohydrates/sugar and you'll gain like crazy (because carbs store water so I hear). Eat lots of rice and chocolate milk.

I'm replying to an OLD reply, but...

Eggs: Great source of protein
Milk: Again, great source of protein
Peanut Butter: Great Source of FAT (The Natural PB is best)
Bacon: Eh...not great at anything, but I'm sure it helps to add mass.

You've been gaining fat because that's what happens when a person eats consumes calories then they burn. Even with the leanest diets you're still going to gain some fat. It's nearly impossible to gain ONLY MUSCLE during a "bulking" cycle....
