My system is a classic Athlon 700mhz w/ voodoo3 3000agp, and 384mb PC133 ram.

The odd thing is im getting anywhere from 30-40 fps... and somewhere on this forum some guy said he was getting 47 with a voodoo2 566 celery.

I dont know what is going on...... the game does seem choppy at times ... my average pings are 20-50ms.. I must have set something incorrectly for this to happen...

Please help me out.. thanks

At 3dfiles they have a link to 'GLsetup' which should detect and install the best drivers for your video card, it might be worth a try. I actually used it to install drivers that were older than the Detonator 7.17 and my framerates increased

hope this works

To me it seems there's no way to make the HL engine run perfectly smooth.

I've gone from a P2-266 with a V2-12 MB to a Duron600@900 with a GF DDR, and of course a few steps in between, and frankly, I havent noticed much of a speed improvement, aside from the fact that I can run in higher resolutions now.

I play on a P3-933 with an MX and get a constant 70fps. Smooth as butter, i only wish UT were the same

My P3-700, 384MB RAM, and 16MB Xpert128 give me about 40-50 at 8x6 in heavy online action.

->Check that your desktop is at 16-bit color depth.
->Do you have the latest mobo drivers? I don't own an Athlon, so I haven't followed it at all, but it seems bus drivers are crucial to good system performance.
->I don't know the command for it, but check what your refresh rate cap is as well.
->Make sure net_graph isn't on, or run the non-graphical ones if you must have it.
->Did you try D3D, to check if your FPS anomaly is limited to just one setting?
->Finally, try GLsetup, as damocles suggested.

You might have to resort to uninstalling and reinstalling HL and CT--be brave.

Interesting quote. Se7en was a pretty good movie, but I have no desire to see it every time you post...
