Do you just want the actual timeline, or do you need the AT thread about it?

Carl Sagan famously compressed the history of the universe into a single calendar year. I have his book Cosmos next to me and it may have been me who wrote that post if it was a year or two ago. Give me a minute and I'll try to dig up the passage in the book.

Edit - here is Carl Sagan in Cosmos talking about it.

 Carl Sagan, RIP

Damn you're good at this :p Watch the video I posted, Sagan was the first that I'm aware of to use this perspective and he does it wonderfully.

I've seen the Cosmos series, so this part of it? (I've seen the year timeline in so many places I don't remember this one specifically)

Isnt this the true time line?

Where does that 4004BCE number come from? How did they determine that was the start of everything?

I dont really know, i was just neffing.

Science is way better than religion. This topic is covered many times in many or threads.

I was just curious. I've heard that earth=6000 years old figure before, and I thought someone might know where the hell they got it from.

It's some ridiculous extrapolation that somebody did using bible stories and dates mentioned in there.

Cool little clip. Puts things into perspective that's for sure. Our existence is barely a blip on the radar and people think we're going to single handedly ruin the planet w/ CO2. The planet has been through much, much more than this already.

No one thinks that, that's ridiculous. There's a major difference between ruining the planet and making life difficult for ourselves and other species. It disgusts me to see you try to use a Carl Sagan clip to push your agenda which couldn't be further from his position.

No one thinks that? I can assure you... some do. I know some of them. I'm not saying we shouldn't clean ourselves up as we definitely should, I just think people buy into the scare tactics of 'clean this shit up or we all aslplode' that keeps popping up.

It disgusts me to think that you believe this is part of a personal agenda, and that you're somehow entitled to force people into thinking a certain way or they're wrong. You need to mature up pretty soon buddy, as people in the real world have brains of their own. You're little ideal bubble of everybody following the footsteps of another doesn't flow in real life.

That's funny, I don't remember expressing my opinion on climate change, in this thread or anywhere else on this forum, ever. I just don't like the idea of using the work of one of the greatest scientists and science popularisers in living memory to push ideas that go squarely against what he spent years fighting for. I'm not forcing anybody to think anything, I'm merely sharing Sagan's views.

Look, if you just want to share his views I'm more than open to hear/see them as he sounds like an interesting and smart guy. You didn't share anything, you just implied I was using it to push my 'agenda' which I wasn't intending to do.
