Rattle Sound

Sorry for the sound quality, just turn up your speakers and listen.

2001 Craftsman 6.0 hp Briggs and Stratton front drive mower. (still starts on 1 pull) I have kept up with changing the oil, plug and also all the cables/parts that break etc.

It has nothing to do with the engine I'm pretty sure. I believe it's something in the pull start mechanism/clutch but not sure exactly what it is.

It's been making the sound for about a 2 years but still runs strong. I'm just curious as to what the noise is? Not really worried about anything actually mechanically wrong with it.

Not a soul on here that knows?

I guess I'll have to take it to a real "Lawn Mower" forum then? j/k/serious/LOL
Just thought someone here was mechanically inclined when it came to a mower.

The sound seems to be coming from where the pullstart cord is wound.

I was looking for parts to replace but it's all riveted.

I have repaired dozens op. you need to disassemble the the pull cord clutch, and clean it, The ball bearings are not falling back into place, and thus hitting the outside of the housing when the engine is running. Use a very light oil (WD40), and reassemble. I have never seen one that was riveted. Do not run the engine again until you do this, or you will have to replace it,(check for damage). This is quite common for a mower with 75+ hours, or is used in a very dusty, or dirty area.
