not sure if this should be OS or OT...Let me know or move if desired.

did a little looking around and haven't found quite what I'm looking for. Needs to have 0 stability issues and near zero performance impact (my xp looks basically like win2k atm, most graphical goodies turned off). Needs to look good at 2048x1536. I do cad/3d work, so it needs to be minimal, I hate having titlebars, etc, take up extra space. black/dark grey/ based with minor appropriote color use (maybe orange or blue and lighter shades of grey) would be prefferred. some of the osX imitation styles get kinda close, but still seem a bit flashy

ease of installation also a plus, as is minor adgustability (i.e. slightly dfferent colors for my laptop, etc)

On my editboxen, I have BlackAqua or DarkAqua or somthing. It's basically the stock UI with everything skinned to black instead of annoying bright colors, but all the design elements are still intact.. I could PROBABLY dig up the files if you're interested.

What he said.

Unfortunately, a lot of themes for Windows require additional software running in the background. I just set my computer at "Windows Standard Theme", disable the Themes services and leave it at that.

Or you could drop in the modified uxtheme DLL and call it a day.

I was thinking along those lines...is there a tutorial for that process somewhere?

I think I found what you're talking about...but it's not quite as minimal as I would like...too bubbly. I'm looking for more slick and professional looking.

I'm getting sick of windows classic...it's a little on the bright side, alittle archaic looking, the standard xp stuff is way too kiddie-stupid looking...

I guess I just want my badass workstation to have a badass feel to it. I'm a designer, so sue me. if it's not possible without issues, oh well, but it'd still be nice.

The Longhorn Transformation Pack works pretty well :)

Dubb:

If you like the classic theme, but want the colors darker, that's easy.

Right click desktop --> properties --> appearance --> Advanced --> Select "3D Objects" under Item --> Pick a nice color to the right of it.

Changes your start menu, any neutral area, etc.

I use the first row, fourth column one myself (one right of the default).

If you don't like the default choices, you can also just click "Other..." and pick the shade you want.

what style is that? anubis?

edit: I supposed I should clarify that by minimal I mean phisically smaller title bars and not so roundish and bubbley

another one that's good on the minimal thing but too bright/not dark enough
