So, my new roommate one day says to me, "You can have this..."
It was a portable dvd player, nothing fancy.. M270

He said to me, ive never got it to work.. so i think to my self, i can fix it! i try running a dvd, and nothing! sounded like the motor to spin the dvd was dead. so i decided to open it. To my amazement, the motor was perfect, the problem was this torn little ribbon that sends the movie to the lcd screen. i took some shots and now need to know where i can find such a cable. where do i look? who do i contact? please help!

Have you searched Google? I got a lot of hits for companies selling the M270. BTW-- search "M270". I didn't look at all of them, but some may sell parts or have a service department that can get it for you, or an address for a parts place.

i emailed AMW directly, hopefully they will respond. i was wondering if anyone knew of any companies that make ribbons like these. i searched using the ribbon information, but nothing came up. =

I too would like to know where to find ribbons like that. How in the world did that ribbon get ripped like that?

It's called a mylar or flex cable. They're generally custom-made so you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone selling them in that shape, let alone in small quantities.

That cable doesn't look like it has that many wires. Depending on the connections required on each end, and proximity to other circuit-board components, you could still salvage that thing, by using an IDE ribbon cable and getting out the ol' soldering iron.

Edit: On second thought... (didn't realize 'pic 4' was a close-up shot).. that could be slightly trickier to hand-solder. Perhaps use an 80-wire IDE cable? It's still doable, if you have steady hands. :p
