1960's? It has the basic melody of 'Never on Sunday', but not with that twangy string instrument, and a much more 'aggressive' version.

Sounds like a Les Paul kind of tune, but don't know what. Maybe that'll get you closer.

Thanks for the suggestion; googling only finds 'Les Paul Chet Atkins', and this song is nowhere near country.

It almost seems like some song that grabbed a bit of the original melody and did something pretty different.

Can you get closer on style? Is what you're thinking of R&R, Surf, Blues, or...?

That's an interesting website. I like that sort of thing on occasion. I don't think the song I'm talking about it 'exotica', though.

It's not *that* aggressive - just more than the original Never on Sunday, which is awfully laid back.

Never On Sunday has a short main melody which leads to some soft relaxed parts. This song has that short melody then goes to more high energy 'aggressive' melody.

But compared to the softer song - not really aggressive like Peter Gunn.

But it doesn't have noticible strings, percussion, electric guitar, etc.

Girl from Ipanema is a very nice song and in the genre, but this song is instrumental.

I found Herb Albert did cover Never On Sunday, but it's the softer version.

When I say the core melody from Never On Sunday, it could be as few as the most prominent seven notes.

Classical Gas, amazing song, but not it - it's also pretty string-heavy.

I didn't listen to the whole other list - some nice songs - but didn't see it.

Guys, if you hear drums, it's not the song. If you hear guitar, it's not the song.

If you don't hear that seven note melody of Never on Sunday, it's not the song.

The original Never on Sunday with lyrics melody I'm talking about is where she sings 'you can kiss me on a Monday, a Monday, a Monday".

After that, the melody is very different.
