Help me find an indoor AC Air conditioner

My room is FLAMING hot!!! I'm burning here...my skin is starting to get cuts....weird...
I bought a "breezin" standing fan a few weeks ago and it was working great but its no match for the heatwave here in NYC.plus this fan is loud as HELL! I'm ready for an indoor AC or a method to modify a standard AC to run indoors.

My price range is about 450$ MAX ....new or used...

Thanks!
Vlad

so, you can't have a window unit?

also, just so you know, all air conditioners need to be vented to the outside somehow...even the portable ones

I just bought a Haier 12k BTU indoor unit because I can't have a window mounted unit in my condo. If you can get a window unit, do so. I have to run two vent tubes out the window.

It's also pretty loud but works very well.

Who me? I have a wall mounted "Package Terminal" unit which isn't really adequate for my whole apartment on hot days (I live on the top floor).

Because condo rules are so strict, they don't allow "modifying" the appearance of the building in any way, and installing a window mounted a/c is against the rules. Most condos have very strict rules that way.

I don;t have a window in my room 🙁 I'd get a standard one if I had a window.
I bought a dehumidifier from compact appliances last year and is was CRAP!!! sold it to a friend the saem week.

My room is a bit far from a window its gonna be hard to get an exhaust outside,I will give craigslist a look later on.

I didn't know compact acs require an exhaust,I thought they had a compartment for water and such.I guess I'm stuck with the heat.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

you are thinking of a swamp cooler..doesn't work that well at all. an AC needs exhaust. Can you cut a 5" hole in the wall?

I can cut a hole in my wall but it will only lead to another windowless room...can't I just put a hose/tubes that connects to a bucket or something...
If a portable Ac needs a window as well then I don't think I can use it.Why don't those friggin ads say you need a winodow? damn...

Those Craigslist links are great thanks guys, pretty nice deals too.

If you live on the top floor you might have a ceiling vent you could pipe the air to. Or on a lower floor you may have a vent somewhere you could use.

Umm... Its pretty basic.

Law of Conservation of Energy. If you take out the heat from the air, where do you think it is going to go? Hint: It doesn't just disappear! ;p

You will have to probably either get a large AC to cool your whole place, or get one of those portable ones.

you want to pour hot air into a bucket?
the exhaust is the hot air, not water. although you will still need to drain the water from the unit, which can be a pain in the ass. i guess you could vent it to another room if you only want your bedroom cool...

Just head down to Sams Club or Cosco or something like that. They have some pretty cheap A/C's. I got a really small one for my upstairs computer room. Sure it doesn't have Energy Saver, but it really doesn't draw all that much energy. It's a little 5000btu one. It was only $80. Sams Club has some cheap A/C's.

Not only are portable AC's expensive to buy, but they tend to cost a lot more in electricity.

I've only used one once. It was when I was stationed in the Mojave Desert. The swamp cooler in my apartment was nice but not doing the job. I couldnt sleep at night. Borrowed a friends AC, (I forget the brand) and rolled it into my bedroom.
Kept me cool all night but tripled my electric bill.

If the OP has money to burn then get it. Otherwise I recommend looking at something else.
