Ok, here is my problem. I recently within the past, like 6 months started having this problem whenever my system would crash that when I would restart the system wouldnt post and I would just get a 2 sec beep then 2 secs of silence then beep again. I would have to do a couple things like take the monitor usb hub cable out and webcame usb out since theyre next to each other then restart again and it would work then I would put the cables back in right away.

However sometimes I would have to do that and shut the power off for a moment then it would work. It realy was a crap shoot as to what would fix it. Again, I can usually count on it doing that anytime my system would hang.

Here is my problem (besides the obvious) I just upgraded to Vista business and now I need more ram (problem 2 gig total) however since Im assuming the beeps are a mobo related problem I might as well replace the mobo. My ram is only DDR1, like the board is, so I guess im looking for a good combo to get me going..

What do you think? Cost would be a factor also, just within reason. I didnt plan on upgrading now, but Vista needs more...

Thanks! :)

Any board that you get that is compatible with your processor will be DDR 1 because the memory controller is in the cpu for the Athlon 64. You can just look for all the socket 939 boards at newegg, and find a few motherboards.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...tion=&Ntk=&srchInDesc=

Given your setup though, you should really consider looking into upgrading the processor as well. The socket 939 platform has been relegated to the "budget" status, and the remaining available motherboards reflect that.

If you're really on a tight budget, I could recommend the following:

GIGABYTE GA-945GCMX-S2 LGA 775 Intel 945GC Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail - $56.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813128058

Intel Dual-Core E2140 Allendale 1.6GHz 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail - $74.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16819116037

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail - $93.49 (-$30 rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820145590

That would be a decent upgrade for right around $200 (after rebate), and you can re-use the rest of your components. Of course if you have a little extra cash, you can always build a faster rig. if you really want the best advice, you should tell us what your budget is and what you plan on using the PC for.

Nitromullet....thanks for your response. Hmm....well, even though I didn't plan on a big upgrade, I wouldn't mind getting rid of the socket 939 processor also. Basically I need Vista to function better, but new ram wouldn't be the best way to go do to my mobo being ddr1 so if Im going to buy I might as well go DDR2 however that's just repeating what I mentioned initially. Having said that, I would plan on a budget around $200-250 for the mobo/ram and possibly cpu. Man I just bought a new network card because mine wasnt compatible with Vista..but most of the new boards will have onboard lan anyway.. oh well :) Man that would be the first Intel chip ive owned in like 10 years.
