Help me find a new receiver

I haven't bought a receiver in over 10 years and the inputs/outputs of my current receiver just aren't cutting it any more. My TV has two HDMI inputs. I have an HD cable box and a PS3 hooked up to my TV via separate HDMI cables. While my cable box has red/white composite audio out I can send to the receiver, the sound has a slight delay between the TV and the receiver. This results in my having the TV volume all the way down.

The PS3 doesn't have the red/white composite audio out option, and my receiver does not have an digital audio (or optical toslink or whatever it is called) in, which results in only having my PS3 audio come out of the TV speakers

so, when I switch my TV's input from cable box to PS3, I have to turn off the receiver and turn up the TV volume. When I switch from PS3 to cable box I have to turn the TV volume all the way down (or just leave the receiver off and have crappy TV speaker audio)

I'm looking for a new receiver at around the $200 range. Since my cable box and PS3 both have digital audio out, I'm not TOO worried about buying a receiver that has pass-thru. I'm also not an audiophile at all, and don't really care if it is 2.1, 5.1, or 7.1 so would these do what I want? Any other recommendations?

Honestly, you'll find life much easier if you spend a tiny bit more to get a receiver that takes audio via HDMI as well. The Sony DG720 is probably the cheapest ($230 special ordered from B&H, $235 via Buy.com), though you can get a refurb Marantz SR4002 for a bit more.

Edit: you can also get a refurb Onkyo 576 for $250. Only in silver, though. Note that the 576 is the lowest Onkyo model that does HDMI audio.

Have you checked your tv's outputs closely? My set has 2HDMI inputs and sends the digital audio to the receiver via optical. That would solve your problem.

my current receiver doesn't have optical inputs :(

and s44, thanks for the suggestions, i'll look into them

EDIT: although... my current receiver does have composite red/white audio out, and it switches the out based on which HDMI cable is plugged in, so i don't need a new receiver after all!

one day when I feel like having true surround i'll pick up a 5.1 or 7.1 model
