I want something that can do the following:

1) Network based storage.
2) RAID 1 support
3) atleast 200 gig storage (2x200 gig hard drives)

I basically want something like this:
Buffalo Technology TeraStation 640GB External Ethernet and USB 2.0 Network Hard Drive

But I don't want nearly that much storage. And I really want to keep this under $400.

Anyone out there that can help me out????

EDIT: This is basically going to be a place for picture/MP3 storage/backup.

EDIT 2: I hope to go buy this, if possbile, today. So if anyone can find something at Best Buy, Staples, etc .. all the better ;_ I hjave had no luck though.

It typically is cheaper to just buy an older 2nd hand system, get a raid adapter and then install whatever disto of linux (prefferably one designed for just being a nas rig)....theres one obvious chioce for which distro to use but the name is slipping my mind right now

edit:
FreeNas....god i can be dumb sometimes

Not a bad idea ..... I have an old K6-2 400 system lieing around. I really want to go the network device route though. I part to save space, in part to minimize power consumption and heat disipation.

What about this paired with two hard drives. I don't need RAID 1. I can be my own "RAID 1" :)

That costs $120.

250 GB USB drives cost $150 each. So that's $420 total. Not to bad

FOUND IT!!!!!

This is it. It does mirroring (although I don't thinmk it's technically RAID). . It "Stores and mirrors important digital content, such as music, games, photos, documents and more"

Toss in two 250 gig hard drives for $150:
250 GB
And I'm set!!!

WHAT IS ATA6?????
