Hey all,

My parents have an old system that I have piecwise upgraded lately. Right now its running an old Biostar VIA chipset motherboard that still have the good ol' 200MHz FSB w/SDRAM, an Athlon T-Bird 1.4GHz (266Mhz FSB model, so right now its running @ 1050MHz w/200MHz FSB), and a GF3. It is decently peppy, but the motherboard is a supreme BITCH. I don't like VIA in the first place, but their old chipsets are buggy as hell.

Now to the point, can someone recommend me a motherboard that supports 266MHz FSB and preferrably both SDRAM & DDR? If only DDR or only SDRAM, that's fine; I'm mainly concerned about stability and COST. I googled and think I found the list of compatible chipsets:
AMD-760
ALi MAGiK 1
KT266?

Any help and recommendation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If your gonna continue using the "Old-Skool" Athlon\XP, then READ MY LIPS: USE NOTHING BUT AN nForce2 !!!!!. Got that? Good. I recommend the A7N8X-X Deluxe(or just the plain A7N8X Deluxe). The "-X" version uses the nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset, while the non-"-X" version uses the plain nForce2 chipset.

Stay away from, at all costs, VIA, SiS, and ALi. Also, stay away from those outdated KT266-era boards. They're just gonna give you more headaches.

BTW: Its good to see another guy not like VIA. I have been criticized for that from my friends, and on these forums. I had problems with a P2, P3, and P4 VIA-based mobos. I will NEVER go back to them ever again. You shouldn't either ;)

for that computer, just eBay an A7V266-E or A7V333

I got an A7V266-E from eBay for my Tbird 1.33 system. the board is rock solid, fast, and seems to work fine with everything.

the A7V333 is also good, I have 4 of them at work with Duron 1.3's in them. All run amazingly stable and fast...

VIA's only buggy chipsets were:

KX133
KT133
KT266 (non-A)

The rest I have had zero problems with. and I HAVE used pretty much all of them.

I'm pretty sure the Biostar board in there now is a KT133 and I hate it, drivers really gave me fits back in the Win98 days.
Thanks for all the input guys, I'm really looking for bottom dollar so I think FleaBay might be the best. If anyone has any sub-$30 boards, feel free to drop me a line ;)
