OK Here is my dilema. I've been looking around without much luck for a new laptop. Here are my absolute set in stone requirements for my next notebook:

- AMD Processor Preferrably Turion, but Athlon64 Also works fine (3400+ and up)

- 1GB RAM min

- 15.4: Widescreen w/ at least 1280x800 resolution

- Built in Wireless

- Battery life at least 3 hours under light usage (word processing/offline webpage browing)

- USB 2.0

- EDIT: Good video Card Radeon 9800 or better

- Under 2,000 USD

That is all I NEED. Hard drive, I'm not too worried about, a 40-60 gigger will do fine for my purposes. Same with optical drive, I don't need a DVD burner.

Seems like most units I run into I have to compromise somewhere in my NEEDS list.

Suggestions please? It doesn't have to be name brand as long as its reliable.

P.S. Don't even suggest Centrino/Pentium M. I simply won't use it in my next personal notebook regardless of any benefits. Sorry... I'm just a bastard :)

Dell currently has a 750 off 1499 coupon if you purchase select Inspiron models. You could get everything you're looking for for ~1200-1300 with dvd burner, 60gb hard drive, 2.0ghz centrino processor, 15.4" wuxga screen, 1gb ram. you should check it out. you could find the details in any hot deals forums (AT, FW, SD)

oh and it comes with a radeon x300 mobility w/128mb ram, which is pretty good.

Must not have read my requirements :p I actually did consider an inspiron 6000 but until Dell sells an AMD product I'm on a personal boycott. (Actually more of an InDel boycott)

i like the op`s opinion on Intel and i would boycot them too but....on the laptop market they are so damn strong, which means that its hard to find many Turion books already. but there are a few and the Acer Ferrari is one of them. Another newcomer which was supposed to be available starting last month is the MSI Megabook M635, with a X700 mobility. Maybe u find a reseller for this model.
I know he wont buy a Intel based book, but nevertheless there are some Acer books, for lowlow prices...:)

batterlife on the ferrari is about 3 hours if all u do is office work AND if u set energy options to the lowest level, i expect much lower battery life if u are gaming. And it comes without glare screen i think, lot of ppl dont like the glossy screens but i do becuz colors do look better and the viewing angle is a bit wider.
