Help me figure out what arcade driving game I am thinking of...

It's not Spy Hunter.. I know that much.

What I do remember at the moment... you drove a car in a behind the car view. Game must be at least 10 years old. You could shoot at things and if you did better on each level you would get a better gun on top of your car. Got a machine gun thing first then I think you got rockets. You could also collect these green orbs (I think) as you drove around the track for extra points. It's not Stunt Runner either.. but it did have a stand up cabinet and a wheel thing that sort of looked like a airplane steering device with two triggers, one on each side..

Any ideas?
 
oh god i know exactly the game youre talking about. used to play it all the time. a helicopter type thing would come down and put the better gun on top of your car. cant remember the name for the life of me, though.

yup.

game is so much harder using a gamepad as opposed to the joystick/wheel thing in the arcade!!

man.. i miss those days of arcade games.. back when something as simple as speech in a game was enough to impress people.
