I have just bought a new Samsung Synchmaster 955DF monitor. When windows loaded up I put in the samsung driver CD and installed the driver. Then when I resetted my Lite-On CDRW drive, which is the slave drive on the secondary IDE, started to crap out. Basically the light on the drive stays on and sometimes it isnt detected on bootup... and when its not detected it takes MUCH longer to load up windows. Once in a while both my DVD drive (master drive on secondary IDE) and LiteOn CDRW drive are detected, but for the most part its always the LiteOn cdrw drive that has the light staying on forever and never shown on the bios OR windows device manager.

My DVD drive ALWAYS works and boots up normally. Do you think the Samsung driver screwed everything up?? Maybe the IDE cable is no good? I really hope its not my Lite On CDRW drive dying on me. Do you think I should clear the CMOS on the bios??? I am at a total loss and I can only think of the samsung driver as the cause since this problem started when I resetted my PC AFTER installing the driver.

Can anyone offer any suggestions???

thanks in advance...

Check the jumper on the back of the drive for master or slave setting and check the pin 1 orientation. Also you might consider making your burner the master & the DVD the slave.

Sounds like something is wrong on that IDE chain. You'll have to do some process of elimination to figure out what it is. For example, take out the LiteOn drive and see if you have any problems still. If you don't, it still could be that connector on the cable. Try using a different IDE cable.

Sorry, no quick solution to these kinds of things.
