If you were buying new, I'd recommend the Ford Escape. Great little cars. (can't really call them trucks)

I know a few people who own them and none have had the slightest problem with theirs.

We looked at them a couple of years ago. Unlike the majority of Japanese cars, I actually fit comfortably in the Escape. I like the construction much better as well. They just feel more solid to me...less "tinny."

I'm one of the "Jap Car Haters" though, so my opinion may be slightly jaded...😛

Have a good friend with a '08 ESCAPE Hybrid. Has been flawless and her FWD model is averaging about 33mpg.

I like the Mariner hybrid more than the Escape.

A guy at work is on his second mariner hybrid. His wife got in a nasty accident in the first one, frontal collision at a decent speed. The car was completely totaled but she walked away with a bruise from her seat belt. They must have liked the car because they took the insurance money and bought another mariner hybrid.

Real men drive 4x4 utes.

Get a Hilux/Tacoma

Put a sports bar and 8 spotties on it

An 80 inch lift kit

Bullbar and more spotties and winch

Must have a style body

Big Bf Goodrich tyres

limited slip diff

2subwoofers plus dvd player

Edit: big bore exhaust plus extractors

It depends on what your average drive is like. Do you drive the highway more or local roads? Getting a hybrid and then not be able to drive it gain good mpg is kind of a waste. My wife drives an Escape Hybrid and her sister has a RAV4. The Escape is bigger and heavier. Driving a hybrid is kind of fun when you treat the mpg like a game, just don't mess up traffic.

so, now i just looked more into the 2010 chevy equinox and i think it's replaced my desire for the rav4...

is the equinox going to be a reliable car?

We had an '08 Escape Hybrid and LOVED IT. We only sold it so we could trade it in on a boat (couldn't swing both payments at the same time.)

I've spent a lot of time on the road, and during that time I've come to one conclusion:

People that drive CR-Vs and RAV4s are the biggest asshats on the road.

so you are deciding between toyota, a japanese car maker, who makes great cars, compared to ford, who owes the government billions, and makes shitty cars?

go with the toyota

Poster child for exactly why you shouldn't ask ATOT. You get fucking idiots like this who have absolutely ZERO clue what they are talking about.

I voted Rav4 b/c that has always been my GF's favorite car, as she describes it as very cute and feminine. And I've always assumed you were a little girly, eits, for no particular reason.

since when did Ford get a bailout?

they declared bankruptcy almost 5 years ago, and recently cleared it, iirc.

😕

I haven't heard bad things about the previous generation. The new ones looks to be even better, though I don't know if I like the front on it quite as much (but that's personal taste).

hmmm, that's weird...can't find a damn thing 😱

http://www.usatoday.com/money/...competition-ford_N.htm

this is the closest I could get, but i could SWEAR I remember this happening a few years back and being huge news. and quite recently, a week or so prior to GM's recent news, there was a story on NPR talking about how successful Ford has become now, only a few years after declaring bankruptcy. wtf is going on

....kinda like how I read on BBC one morning (a few years ago) that Castro died, thought not much more of it (Hell, I know I wasn't the only one that read that story), then saw some report some time later mentioning Castro's failing health...

weird.

Toyota/Honda's are so overpriced used. I would get the Escape. Even though it's a hybrid you can still probably get it for a lot less than a Rav4 or the same price and you get a lot more car with the Excape Hybrid.

i'm starting to lean more towards the 2010 chevy equinox.... anyone care to convince me otherwise? don't be stupid about it and say "omg it's a chevy... don't do it" unless you know what you're talking about.

Your BEST choice is to go physically LOOK at the vehicles, test drive them. (do a bit of research on reliability/service issues on the individual models) then buy the one you like the best.
Much to the great amazement of people here, not everyone likes the same thing...😛 and what I like...you may hate...or vice-versa.
