The Altima is less of a frumpy car, and you can get it with a manual.

my family is all nissan at the moment, and i definately prefer the altima over the camry.

but, a good friend of mine recently picked up a malibu, w/ the V6 for 16k and i have to admit. its a nice car. interior seems nice, quiet on the highway, he gets 30+ mpg on the highway as well.

I recently bought a new Camry for my mom and the Camry LE sells for the same price as a Honda Accord LX, $16,000 plus tax and paperwork, which comes to about $17,500-$17,700 depending on city tax rates and stuff. Keep that in mind if you're going to by one of these cars. You shouldn't ever pay more than that.

sorry, forgot to say that I ended up buying a 2005 toyota camry SE for $18,850. The SE is the one with the sunroof, sports trim, sport suspension, 16" wheels, and sport headlights/foglights. Much better looking than the LE/XLE.

You could probably check out a Sebring Sedan as well.
Otherwise, go Nissan.
