I'm building a new system, probably Intel this time (not that I don't like AMD, just want to try something differant) Will it be worth the extra $ to wait and get the 800 FSB system? Or is the 533 fast enough? I don't mind spending the extra $ if it's that much faster. I foresure want a 3.06 gigHz cpu.

you didn't say that...😀 ..buy a Dell on one of the lowdown dirty price HotDeal thread posts to tide you over..😉 and that way you can get Intelexperienced quick as well ..🙂 <edit2>

that's I said Dell..there are server deals,desktop deals,etc. 😉😀

No point in wasting your money on a new machine right now. At least wait till the first of the year, you'll still be able to run everything good and by then the P4's and AMD chips may actually be worth you upgrading to, but as of right now you'd be wasting money in my opinion.

For extreme network gaming mostly

If you HAVE to have it now, you can go with the 3.06 (533 MHz FSB) CPU, but it's not that much cheaper than the 3.0GHz CPU (800 MHz FSB). If you wait a month or so, the 3.2 GHz chip will be released, and the 3.0 will come down considerably. I'm waiting for the tier after that for my upgrade, and my system sucks (see avatar). No intranet gaming for Slammy D:

Well, unless you like throwing money away, the rig in your sig looks pretty good. I might splurge and get a 2700 next time (or a 2800), but other than that, the Athlons at 333 FSB with the 9700 kick butt and an nforce2 platform. I know that the 3000 800 fsb beats it by a small margin in games other than quake3, but my god, the money difference (and they won't be available for a bit I think per the recal I am reading about)

well the 533's are plenty fast but since you are looking at upgrading...
i would get the 800 mhz fsb.the benchmarks i have seen while good didn't include the ht side at all,but i only read a few of them.

the 3.0 800 fsb chip shows good improvements in most areas but is the same in others, but will be more future proof (if that matters to you?)choices such as mobo and ram may mean as much or more in speeds.it is your choice as to what you spend but i'd recommend that you balance it out with a good mobo and ram,to see the true benifits.

depending on what your looking for in terms of speed (for photoshop.gaming, server? etc...) should also be included in the thought process.also how much your budget is,is a very important factor, because it may mean cutting back on a few mhz to get a balanced system,or going all out for the latest and greatest.

what mobo-ram-hdd are you looking at?
server or ?
will it include ide or scsi?
is a new monitor included in your budget?
speakers -video card- sound card?

let us know what you are planning and what uses you will have for it,it makes helping much easier.

Actually all I need is a motherboard and CPU, I'll use the rest of my sig system for it and build a second system for my kid with this motherboard and cpu and use spare parts I have laying around(good spare parts of course) so we can network the systems and play games.
