Help me decide on what to buy...

Hi there.

Just wondering if you think I should get a GeForce4 Ti4600 (no specific brand in mind), a 40 GB Seagate tape drive, a Plextor 40x CD-RW, or 2 more 60 gig HDDs for my Win2k PDC box... I just can't decide

do what i did, screw it and get a laptop!

-seriously though, depends what you already have, if your HD is the slowest component RAID those 2 60s together, screw the tape drive, that's crap, play a lot of games? go for the 4600! that 40x cdrw is all show, just a cough, sneeze, and a 'aaaaaagghh' longer than my 24x!

good luck

and if you decide to buy multiple items, feel free to ship the excess my way... (of course I'd pay S&H) 😉

if you already have a burner, get the hard drives

if you don't have a burner, get the plextor CD-RW

most people that buy tape drives for home use rarely use them, video cards are overrated

Thanks Ron and FoBoT! I think I'll go with the new GeForce4 Titanium. See, I already have 2 RAIDed 60s in this server and they are ATA/133 7,200 RPM Maxtors and a tape drive would be nice just in case these 60s fail... I have a lot of sensitive user data from both of my domains on this server. Yeah, and I already have an older 8x CD-RW; it does good for my daily backups with DirectCD.

P.S. I'm not a n00b like you probably thought 😛 (sys admin for friend's organization and going my CCNA and MCSE right now) not really looking for advice, just can't decide 😉 Thanks just the same

option one is enticing, but option two is so much cheaper. and being this fall... the video card wars shuld really drive prices down... i think option two is the "smarter" choice.
