The Paradigm Monitors are very popular among Home Theater enthusiasts. I prefer the sound of the Klipsch, namely the RF-3II series. Somewhere along the line you will have someone tell you each of the 4 you have listed is the best. Your best bet is to audition the speakers and decide which sounds best to you.

I've got the old Infinity RS's and I love 'em. My vote is on the Infinities. :)

yeah, I've looked at DIY, but right now I have a few offers/negotiations going that would get me a pretty good deal on either of the mentioned speakers.

I did test them out, all of them, earlier today. The Paradigms, DefTechs and Infinity's were tested at a HT/AV store, and the Klipsch's were in someone's house.

Back to DIY.....I've read really good things about the new AV1/AV1+'s from GR Research, but I'm getting a good enough deal that I'll postpone DIY til later. (Still college student, can't risk screwing anything up.) If nothing else, I'l DIM (myself ;) ), but for now, I wanted to see what people thought.

I know I'll have people tell me taht each of those speakers are the best, but I was looking for reasons, descriptions, pros/cons. I could only grasp so much from 45 minutes of auditioning. I'll go back, don't worry, but the Klipsch's are an hour away, so most likely not on those. (I might still buy them, the guy's offering me a great deal, but I'm worried that they're too bright, with the horn.....oy)

Thanks. :)

Hands down best speakers I've heard are from B&W.

EvilYoda, IIRC, GR-research builds the crossover for you, so all you have to so is build the cabinet.

I would probably go for the Def Tech's, IIRC they use the Seas aluminum tweeter now selling for $17 at Parts Express :)

I might imagine that the B&W's were the best you've heard, but I can't really afford those, can I? (Well, kinda, but I'm just not looking at them. ;) )

Man, I leave for an hour and some, and this thing drops like a fat man off a cliff.

Any other words? Thanks Viperoni, I knew you'd chime in somewhere and make me feel bad about buying a mass manufactured speaker. ^_^ If you'll throw me a spec on price for a tower of similar comparison, maybe you'll swing me back over to the DIY side. :)

Now you see, that's my problem, I'm looking at 600-800 dollar speakers, but only because I can get a great discount on it. For cold hard cash, I can only currently afford like $300. So work with that? :)

<<SUPER sweet towers; think Wilson Audio quality.>>

That's one very big endorsement, Vip.

EvilYoda, you and only you need to audition the speakers yourself. There is no other audio component that will change the sound of your system than the speakers and each person needs to find the speakers that they, themselves like the most.

Adire Kit 281 :)
dual 8inch woofers with 11mm linear excursion, and a good tweeter to match. And a prebuilt crossover :D

Squisher, it is a big endorsement, but then again, Scan Speak makes INCREDIBLE woofer and tweeters. Ever seen a tweeter with 1mm of linear excursion :Q
(It's so the tweeter can handle super low crossover points.... better SQ)

Okay Viperoni, I've looked at that set before, teh Adire, how much is that?

I just got a PM that someone's offering a pair of Definitive Technology BP-8Bs for $539 including tax and shipping, and then, I can pick up a pair of Paradigm Monitor 7's on my next trip to Toronto, for $400 USD.....that's mighty tempting.

Lastly, Viperoni, any suggestions on some nice speaker cabling? g/f's mom needs some for HER BP-8's, I'm gonna need like 60 or 70 feet.

What receiver are you using? About the only time I've noticed the Klipsch being overly bright is when paired with a Yamaha receiver.

Well, I guess I miscalculated on the DefTech's, just found out that I can't afford them.......so now my choices are the close-out Infinity's from teh store, driving up to Canada to buy a pair of Paradigms (UNLESS someone near New Brunswick wants to help me out, for a nice bonus. :) ), or buying the guy's Klipsch's.....

Guess I'll just dream about them, for now. :)
