Looking at the Seasonic X-750 and the Corsair HX850.

I want something modular, the Seasonic is fully modular. However my components are going to be as follows so if there's reason to get one over the other please do tell.

Asus P5Q Deluxe Mobo
Q9550 (overclocked to 3.6ghz or so)
4GB G.Skill DDR2-800 (2x2GB)
1x WD Velociraptor 300GB
2x WD Caviar SE16 250GB HDDs
1x Seagate 1TB 7200.11 HDD
1x EVGA GTX-295 overclocked to 608/1180/1370
1x BFG 9600GT OC (physix card)
Cooler Master HAF-932 case with three 250mm fans, one 140mm, and a 120mm fan on my CPU cooler.

that's it aside from my XFI soundcard and Blu-Ray/DVDRW drive.

Basically I don't know if I should go for the higher wattage of the HX850 and the higher amperage rating on the +12v rail. I do like the efficiency of the Seasonic unit, but don't know if 750w and 62A on the +12v rail is enough for this system in it's overclocked state. My TX750 psu is dead more or less and is just giving headaches whenever it's plugged in, something happened so I am replacing it and updating the motherboard. Maybe I put too much strain on the TX750 and really need the HX850's extra headroom?

Thanks

I went on Antec calculator and it says your system is more or less around ~550W so take that into account. You'd obviously want to make sure you have head room on it. A 750W would be fine but doesn't hurt to go more. It's not going to hurt anything and if you want to add another 295 at some time the extra headroom would be appreciated cus adding another 295 bring your wattage to ~720W.

I don't trust calculators. The Extreme PSU calculator says 720watts with 20% capacitor aging at 95% load. And yet others from Asus for example told me over 780. So, I don't know lol. I especially don't know what I did to kill my TX750. It is unstable in the system so maybe I overloaded it or it was just time for it to go after so much up time.

I think the X-750 would likely be enough...but I personally would go for 850W just to be safe. A highly overclocked CPU, two highly overclocked GPUs and a third GPU, not to mention 4 hard drives and 5 fans.

Plenty of Antec's stuff is good...Especially the Delta made Signature series...better than many PSUs out there.

Anyway, Corsair HX850, Seasonic M12D or if you can stomach the look of it, the XFX Black Edition, Enermax Revolution 85+ 850W.

All of them are 80+ Silver and pushing close to Gold.

i bought the antec x-850 signature series and it is fantastic. its super quiet and semi modular. i've gamed on it for hours and never even noticed the fan fire up. my h50 water cooling fan is louder...lol. You will be very happy with that one. Not sure on the corsair but I had the same dilema as you and it worked out great for me. Totally satisfied and it feels like superb quality to me (but what do I know lol). However, as with anything you buy its up to the gods if you have an issue with it or not.

I'm sure you know what I'm talking about guys. You have one brand that continually gives issues time after time and you get fed up. I'm sure some of the stuff is very very high quality.

Going with the Corsair. Haven't heard a bad thing about it yet (except that it's not 100% modular).

If you really want 100% modular, there is always the Silverstone Decathalon. It isn't in the same class as the others I mentioned, but it is good.

Antec TPN-750

There's a problem with that logic, in that Antec does not manufacture PSU's. As such, the actual manufacturer and quality level changes from product line to product line, so using past experiences of antec's (with different actual manufacturers) is useless. If it makes you feel any better, the TPN is made by seasonic, of course the same OEM as the corsair and seasonic you're considering. It would be no more likely to fail than either of the others, as the difference performance wise is just about negligible - they're all awesome
