Help me decide: Dell 2005fpw or Viewsonic Vp912b/Sony HS94

I'm ready to complete my new system with the purchase of one of the above monitors, however I can't seem to decide which one is the best considering all of the issues I have read about.

I use the computer mainly for games (WoW, EQ2, Half-Life, etc.) and web surfing. I have seen the Sony monitor in stores and I think the colors are amazing. What concerns me about the Sony are the reflective coating on the screen, backlighting issues and possible eye strain from the bright monitor. I also am not sure whether I would regret limiting the resolution to 1280X1024.

For the Dell, although I have not seen one in person I have seen the 20" Apple Cinema Display at CompUSA and I was impressed with the monitor. Has anyone compared the Apple with the Dell in terms of clarity and color representation? I am concerned that so many people seem to have either a backlighting issue or dead pixels and I'm worried that Dell will stop allowing exchanges because of too many returns. Does anyone Actually have the Dell without any issues? For those who have experienced problems, would you buy the same monitor if you had the chance to choose again?

Based on the above, which monitor would you choose? Please help me decide.

I picked up a 2005fpw before the holidays, and I couldn't be happier with it. It's bright, no deal pixels, and I don't see any backlighting issues that I've read some users speaking of.

I play the same games you listed (EQ2 looks GREAT on this widescreen!) and I'm really loving it. I'm saving for a new video cardn (X800 or X850 series), but my 9800pro is doing a pretty good job so far keeping up with the higher resolutions!

See the review on PCWorld?

Too bad you did not ask this a few days ago. The ViewSonic you could have bought for $523 shipped on Dell after some instant rebate action.

Well, I opted for the 2005FPW. The 2005FPW is a bigger monitor than the other two you are comparing it to. Dell service sucks, but the price on this widescreen monitor can't be beat. They originally sent me a 1905FP in error, and the replacement 2005FPW took forever to get shipped (over xmas). If it gets here and it isn't up tp par, I'll send it back. I don't think that being concerned over them not accepting any more returns is an issue.

Tried the Sony HS94P and Viewsonic, both crap when it comes to gaming. So I ordered a Mitsubishi FP2141SB-BK 22" Diamondtron CRT from Dell instead.

I have seen all of those monitors in person, and they are all nice..

I would opt for the Dell. WS kicks ASS.

Did I say widescreen?

I also hooked the Dell up next to the Apple Cinema Display, and WOW.

Extremely impressed with this 2005fp.

Check out my thread, has a bunch of different things inside.

Watch out for viewsonic vp 912b. It has changed its specs. The coating is no longer Glare, 2H., despite their website said so. They changed it to anti glare coating without telling the buyers. Personally I was upset when I recieved my 912b. And their customer service are pretty useless. they tried to blame it to the retailor for not informing me.

I have a 2005FPW and I play quake with it... I have to admit there are some levels I play in which it's cool to have the extra width. I can just stand in one spot and see everything without moving...muahaha. Almost seems like cheating ;-) Needless to say, I am happy with my monitor... and stressed over buying it thinking it might not work like I want it to. It works great tho

Well I don't have a personal opinion for the Sony and Apple but I ordered 2001FP and I got 2005fpw by mistake.
Very good in terms of clarity and brightness no dead pixels no ghosting and unnoticeable backlighting effect on the top left corner.
Though I'm waiting for the 2001fp to come since I prefer a 4:3 monitor I was really impressed with this one.
