Help me decide: Canon S30 or Canon S200!

I'm partial to the Canon line so it will be between these 2 cameras only.

I used to have a S330, and I think it's the worst out of the 3 -- it compromised both feature and size.

I used to take a bunch of photos when I first got a digital camera...then the novelty purposes wore off and now I don't do it as often... but I still would like an upgrade in terms of features -- mainly the fully manual mode. However, because I take less "artistic" pictures now, the S200 would be killer for carrying around for spontaneous and random party photos. The S330 was very pocketable, but the s200's size would really, really, really kick butt.

The price difference between the 2 is 100$, but money is not that big of a problem to me now, so it plays only a small factor... i'm almost dead-set between these 2, so im gonna need your vote. I think I'll finalize the decision after 30 votes :)

Canon S30: fully featured, sleek body, 3mp, cost more
Canon S200: less features, super super sleek, 2mp, cost less

I have the S200, flash is weak and the lense is so small for low light situations, but I love the size. However if I where to buy one now, it would be the S230, s200 form factor w/ 3 mega pixel CCD

Hehe the A40 can't compete with the S200/S30 but it sure would be nice if I could figure out how to use mine!

not only is it larger than the S30 but it has less features as well. its inferior to either of these in anything but price.

i would've bought the A40 when I was deciding on my S330 but the idea of having to use AA batteries turned me off =x

I'm actually GLAD that the Canon A40 takes regular AA batteries since you buy rechargeable batteries for so cheap. 4 Panasonic 1600 mAH rechargeable batteries for $4.99 @ Big Lots B&M.

Dude, you've been saying that for the longest time. Read the manual and learn how to use the digicam already. :D

s30. you really should be debating between the s30 and the s230. the s230 is the same size as the s200 with more features, better auto focus, and 3mp.

S30 vs S230 is a fair comparison.
S30 you get better optics and higher zoom, but with S230 you get a nice compact form factor.
Personally I would pick S230 because it is just so small and cute.

I'm not considering the s230 because for the money it does nothing for me at all. for the money i would take the s30 in a jiffy because it has the full manual capabilities with better macro. the extra 300 lines of pixel (height) doesnt justify the100$ since theyre essentially the same minus the larger ccd :)

If you are not planning on taking serious picture or a lot of printing, I say go with S200.
2MP is enough for 4X6 and more than enough for email.
Since you stated that your purpose is mostly for spontaneous use everywhere, S200 would be easier to carry around than S30.
3MP is not just about 300 more lines on top of 2MP, it is about more detail that the CCD can capture.
The analogy is more like a flower picture with 2 million pixels or 3 million pixels in the same size.

well, also, while the s330 probably had the best image quality in its class, i wasnt 100% content with it. i know that the s200 is about the same, and i fear that the s230 will be likewise.

i really like what ive seen from the s30 and i trust it to be sharper/clearer... so thats another reason why i give the s30 a nod over the s230..

hope ive made it clear :)

s30 cause I have one :)

I've read too many problems with the focus in low light on the 200/230/300/330. Granted my s30 isnt that great in low light unless you have a steady hand, but doesn't seem to have the focus problems the smaller ones do.

well, i bit the bullet and bought the s30, chiefly for availability reasons.

it seems as if the s30's production has been halted...staples, dell, and even newegg are out of stock and nobody knows what has happened to it

plus the few s30 that are available on ebay are selling for really high prices... so i can always sell my s30 without much loss and buy a s200 new or used if im displeased with the s30...
