Help me come up with a topic for a paper

I have to write this 15 page paper for one of my MIS classes, and it has to be on something technical related to the computer industry. I want to do something that is not overly technical, that can be done in 15-17 pages. I'm trying to avoid getting stuck in the trap of going after a topic that is going to require way more time to fully explain than I have. In our paper we have to explain the history of the technology, what the current tech is, who are the major players in the technology, and where the technology is going. The examples the prof gave were pretty wide ranging. I'm not asking for anyone to help me write the paper, I just need suggestions on a good topic. Thanks

Or how about history of the internet, and you could leave the paper at IPv6

Why not write a paper on GUIs? You can get a history of them, and can certainly write about the future.

Write about how the technology for networking has changed in the past 10 years. from modems to ethernet to fiber. past present and future. you'll have plenty to write about. doesn't have to be too technical. and you can even write about some of the future stuff like how they plan on bringing fiber to the home. last mile solutions etc.

industrial use of computers - PLCs used in, say, a food processing plant, robots on assembly lines etc.
medical use of computers - imaging, surgery, blood tests etc.
