Help me clean my Ionic Breeze ... please

I have one of those Ionic Breeze air cleaners.

I have neglected to clean the filter for about 1 mounth, and there is a thin layer of gunk coating the entire metal filter.

I have tried removing the gunk with both a warm and a cold damp wet cloth...no success.

If I place my warm fingers against the gunky metal, and hold them there for about 2-3 seconds, the gunk directly underneath my pressed finger will stick to my finger. This method removes small patches of gunk PERFECTLY. I mean the stuff just comes off entirely.

Now to apply this method for the entire filter would be very pains-taking.

Can anyone offer an alternative method ?

yes...extremely well. In - fact I noticed that it wasn't working so well just recently, due to a STRONG awarness of a build-up in airborne particles.

The build up of funk, due to my lazineess, is clearly affected the ability of the machine, though.

Hm that's wierd... i know somebody that has an ionic breeze, and months go by and he'll be too lazy to clean it... and when he does, it cleans just fine.

Yeah, it cleans cigarette smoke ok i suppose. Hard to tell since when you smoke, you don't notice it as well as nonsmokers. But i couldn't stand the smell. They claim it smells like chlorine from a pool, but i like that smell. The smell is irrating to me, and whenever i had guests over, they always mentioned the strange smell.

yes...in fact cigarrette and marijuana smoke are the major airborne elements in the room being ionically (sp?) cleaned.

It does an amazing job at gathering the smoke...I never have lingering smoke smell for more than 30 min. , and when I come home after work my room smells clean as a whistle.

Mine has A LOT of smoke to deal with.

that smell is Ozone. I am rather used to it now.

I don't know what the filter looks like but I suppose, if possible, you could use a knife and scrape it off?

Try some masking tape.

Im hesitant to damage the filter. It appears to be raw metal, but there may be some important layer that I would be damaging.

That's probably it... it's probably tar. Theirs is a VERY VERY dirty/dusty place, but they're not smokers.

Just use a spatula or something else soft-edged from your kitchen.... Maybe a hair dryer to warm it up since that's what it seems your finger is doing?

Just run it under water. Then let it dry for several hours per the manual(manual says 12 hrs).

I have one of these things in my bedroom and it filters a LOT of stuff out of the air. I usually clean mine with a damp rag or a Swifter brand dustcloth. You don't have to get them spotless, just remove the majority of filth it filtered out.

This is one product I haven't regretted purchasing. No filters to buy and if you saw the junk it kept out of my lungs :Q you would be sold on these devices too.

No, I don't smoke anything.

Maybe it's a tar build up? Use some rubbing alcohol and be sure and let it dry thoroughly.

Just a note for people with respiratory illness, the Ionic Breeze is in fact little more than an ozone generator. If you have asthma, allergies, or bronchitis you'd probably better get something else since ozone is hard on the lungs.

The ionic breeze produces ozone? Isn't that supposed to be toxic? How much ozone does it produce?
