I have 2 choices but I can't really decide with too many bias opinions. I need the truth.
i5 2500k with 550ti or FX 6300 with 560ti. it will strictly be used for gaming only. Those are my only options. Which will serve me better. Thanks a bunch.;)

If those are your only options go with FX 6300 + 560 Ti. Weaker CPU + better GPU = better gaming experience.

Why are those your only options?

For what its worth I would still recommend an i3-3220 over an FX6300, and putting the saved money into the gpu. I know there are some games where 6 threads might help, but I would just work around that. The single thread performance of the FX is just unacceptable. On paper its tolerable, just like a 2 core 4 thread atom is tolerable, on paper. But for an enthusiast? Hell no, it is agonizing.

Price difference is just 10$ between 3220 and 6300. Hardly you can jump from 550 ti to 560ti with 10$ saved... And 6300 is competent gaming processor ;).

Echo this. If we knew your budget and where you are buying, maybe we can point you in a better direction?

It's being custom built in So Cal. for about 550
Fx6300, 2tb 7200rpm/64mb cache, zotac 560ti, 8gb crucial ram, dvd burner, msi mobo, win 7
Its about the same price with the i5 2500k with the 550ti.

I can understand custom building on the high end but on the low end, is there a reason you can't build it yourself and get something better?

I don't know anything about computers. i don't want to mess it up. I feel better if someone who has experience does it. And idk if i can get this built for 500-550 (600 max)

These days, anyone who can read and follow instructions can build a computer. You can easily get something much better for 600. I would start with that $99 i5 2500k if you are near a Microcenter...

Building a PC is like putting together IKEA furniture. Yes, some people can't do it.

I live near a MicroCenter, and I have not seen the 99.00 2500K. I went in the store last weekend and also checked their ads. I also looked at the preview of their Black Friday ad and dont see it.

If you could really get one for that price, you could get a bunch of friends together, each go in and get one, and resell them on E-bay for a nice profit!

And I tend to also think that building a computer is not as easy as some make it out to be. Yes, I know the parts to get, except might need advice on MB and case, but there are a lot of small delicate assembly steps, and if you damage one component or dont know what to do, you are screwed. That is assuming you have no one around to advise you, which I dont. I probably would not hesitate to try to build if there was someone around I could count on for advice if I had a problem.

You could always try pricematching, though I think that $100 price is actually over now. Could be wrong though. Why do people always forget pricematching.

Anyways, ya id go for the i5-2500k. Cant really beat that for $100. I dont buy AMD cpu's anymore personally, not sure why anyone else would either.

Why GTX 500 series? The Radeon 7850 is better than a 560Ti. Or even a 650Ti or Radeon 7770 instead of a 550Ti. I don't know if these are possibilities for you, but the 550Ti is poo and the 560Ti is discontinued tech that gets smashed by the 7850 (unless it is the badass 448 core) for a similar (usually much less) price.

You didnt really provide much details. Decisions like this really depend on many factors, such as resolution played at(this is a big one), fps you want, games being played, monitors being used, etc.

I can say the best bang 4 buck GPU is probably the 7770. Ive seen them for $80-90 many times and that is a fairly big performance for the price. The 550ti is roughly the same speed as the 6770/5770. They arnt bad but they have been kind of overpriced for what they are. I wouldnt buy a 550ti for past maybe $60-80.

It really depends on what you want to spend as there are many different models and brands within the $80-140 range.

If you can find all the parts for 500 and is better than those options, I will build my first computer. Money is tight.

try a newer VGA like the 7850

also choose carefully all the components (like ram, MB) based on your needs, to use more money where it's needed the most (like gaming, as fast as possible VGA, and fast CPU).

open box MB?

also cheap ram would save some $15 or more, that's not a lot but it's the difference from the 1 to 2GB 7850 (and in some games it appear to make a good difference, like Skyrim with HD textures)

edit; I choose a bad hard drive (thought it was the 103SJ), but there are some good options on the same price.
