I'm a bit of a fan of form over function, I bought a bolt-action rifle before my AK variant. Those are the only firearms I currently own.

that said, I've been thinking of getting one of the following:

Form:
SA revolver
double barreled shotgun
muzzle loader (probably a Kentucky long rifle replica)

Function:
semi-auto pistol (.40, .45)
Saiga 12 gauge shotgun

Form and function (sort of):
DA revolver (.357)
Pump shotgun

Kel-Tec PLR-16. Basically a .223 pistol. I have one and it is very nice and pretty inexpensive. Looks mean too, once you put a foregrip and holographic site on it.

Edit: Just got an e-mail about the new Mossberg 500 Chainsaw Shotgun. At first I was stoked, thinking literally about it. Saw the pictures and it still looks cool. Shotgun with bottom and side rails and a chainsaw style foregrip. Looks pretty cool.

double barreled shotgun imo

pump action + bourbon = redneck

Revolvers have both form and function.

Can't riddle your enemies full of holes like you can with a double-stacked automatic, but you won't need to. And they look awesome and are extremely reliable.

My suggestions in order:

#1 - Remington 870 express
#2 - Mossberg 500
#3 - mossberg 590
#4 - AR-15

If you have some money to spend, a DS Arms SA58 FN/FAL would be my preferred weapon of choice.

Make it an Over/Under Beretta and you have my vote. I have a .20 gauge O/U that I absolutely love. Probably my favorite actually.

SAO revolvers are kind of a novelty gun. I had one once and hardly ever shot it after 6 months or so of owning it. Unless you're going to use it for handgun hunting and mount some match sights or a scope on it or do some of those old west style shooting competitions they are pretty much useless. Now I do have a Smith & Wesson model 629 w/8" barrel that I also love, and I'll never part with it, but the cowboy guns? Completely worthless.

Everytime I go to the range the model 629 comes with me.

Consider a .22 rifle, like a Ruger maybe. Loads of fun, and very useful in self defense.*

Might want to rethink that, as a literal interpretation of ATF regs would seem to indicate that sticking a foregrip on a PLR-16 would make it an unregistered SBR. I would definitely do some research for myself and make sure I was comfortable with it before doing so.
