My system is so far:

Athlon 64 X2 4400+
DFI Lan Party NForce4 SLI-DR

Points to consider:

- Somewhat novice overclocker but wish to learn more as I go and start w/ the right components

- I want to get 2 1 Gig. sticks

- I would like a good combo of performance, price and overclockability

- Budget is less than 300 (cant believe I'm spending 300 for freaking ram)

So whatcha think?

2x 1GB OCZ value RAM. IIRC that RAM is speed binned and is very good. I believe the stock timings are 2-3-2 and it should OC pretty well (for 1GB sticks) with slightly loser timings. I believe two sticks will run you around $260...

:) i didn't mean it like that.

i actually started that thread hoping to find people with similar results. i mean this stufff is clocking like mad. the easiest ram ive had and for 1 gig it looks to be amazing.

i wish i knew more about how ram is made, binned etc so as to know if this is just a fluke or a well binned batch or i dunno, just wondering.

out of curiousity i'm going to throw 2.5-4-4-10 on before bed and see what happens. i think it should do some 270ish 3-3-3-8 anyway.

That Mushkin looks like a good bet...do you need a fan mounted on those like you do with the Redline?

no, i only have 2.8v going through it. if i get ~275mhz i may neeed some but my case is pretty good and my ocz at 275 was fine with no active cooling.

This is definately the best thread ever...:disgust:

Mushkin does well with DFI boards...this is the best Mushkin 1GB ram I can find on the Egg.

I can't remember the brand, but newegg sometimes has a sale that sells 2 gigs for like $120. I think someone bought it and said it was decent. anyways, you can't beat the price of that.

Not to thread hijack but you have a p180 for a decent price, looks like I may get it from you guys.

And for ram I am just getting 2 x 1GB Corsair Value ram for something like $160. Looks like a decent buy for decent ram and I mainly intend to oc the cpu not the ram (using dividers).
