Help me choose between KDE and Gnome for my laptop

I'm installing debian on my 100mhz 40mb laptop. I'm worried about performance. Is either Kde or Gnome considered to be faster or less resource-intensive?

Any suggestions for which windowmaker might be the fastest?

In general, are there any good articles that discuss the differences between KDE and Gnome. I know I could try which one I like better, but I've tried both and they are both adequate for me. Both are open right? Is it true that more distros are behind gnome?

Thanks

Personally, I don't notice any difference between the two in terms of speed. I prefer KDE though for some reason.

You might wanna try the Operating systems forum to get more replies. here's a thread that might answer some of your questions: thread

If you were worried about performance you wouldnt be using Gnome or KDE. Either would be fine though. Its all personal preference. I just dont bother.

Bigrash, thanks for showing me that other thread.

I assumed you needed gnome and kde to run their specialized apps, but I guess not. Maybe I'll just run blackbox or something.

What can you do with gnome and kde that you can't do without it?

Noc, You are saying that kde and gnome are unecessary right? Or are you saying even a windowmanager is unecessary?

I want to be able to surf most sites (with passwords and see the pictures) and it doesn' t seem like there's a console browswer that could do that... but maybe I'm wrong.

I use blackbox. I use opera as my browser, but I have use konqueror in bb. KDE and Gnome are HUGE. bb, windowmaker, icewm, and a handfull of other WMs that are light weight, perfect for older hardware.
